Assuming it was a "setup" . . . you'd think a big grown up radio personality would have figured it out and not taken the bait. He didn't and it wouldn't have mattered, based on the statements he made, had she been 21, 31, or 41 . . . it woudn't have mattered. He reduced the conservative position to crude, rude, hateful speech, which has basically backfired. So far, three advertisers have canceled their advertising and dropped their support of Rush Limbaugh’s show. The first was The Sleep Train, and just a few hours ago, Sleep Number announced they were dropping Limbaugh also. Just minutes ago, Quicken Loans announced it had “suspended” its advertising on Limbaugh’s show as well. Last edited by MTI; 03-02-2012 at 05:38 PM. |

I see no indignation on the left when others make similar statements to persons on the right and you must realize that is the norm. Like Limbaugh said, will Obama give back the Million he got from Bill Mather? |

Sandra Fluke is a 30 year old Georgetown U. law student. These statements about wanting to have too much sex or sex without consequences and assuming she's speaking only about birth control show an alarming lack of understanding about oral contraceptives and how and what they're used for among some posters here.
I'd be proud to have a daughter like her. I'd hold her up as a role model to my girls in a heartbeat.

For whatever reason, people don't like the Affordable Care Act (aka ObamaCare) when it's described as such but they do like the major portions of it. This is basically like saying I don't like Mercedes as a car, but I want a reliable older diesel that easy to work on, but I'll never buy a Mercedes because I don't like 'em. Access to a specific subset of prescription drugs taken by women (aka 'birth control') has been raised as a hotbutton issue. Yes, the typical use of oral contraceptives is for the prevention of conception. However, they are a set of drugs that affect the release of hormones. As such, they have other medical purposes and may be prescribed, after seeing a doctor, for these purposes. You may not know this, so I'll provide a reference: http://www.guttmacher.org/pubs/Beyond-Birth-Control.pdf#page=4 Typically, if you see a doctor and get a prescription, that is covered by medical insurance. Unless it's "birth control" apparently. Limbaugh seems stunned at the cost. As a convicted felon and prescription drug abuser, this surprises me. I thought he'd be more aware of the market for prescription drugs and how much they cost. Several years ago, US News compared the costs of birth control methods. Guess what? Presciption oral contraceptives in 2010 were estimated to cost up to $600 per year. Add in one or two doctor's visits per year in order to have a checkup and renew the prescription, and some inflation, and now $1000 per year for seeing a doctor isn't so outlandish. http://money.usnews.com/money/blogs/alpha-consumer/2010/08/27/the-real-cost-of-birth-control- Compare the concept of seeing a doctor, getting a prescription for drugs that control the release of powerful hormones within your body that serves different purposes and can affect quality of life on an ongoing basis and not just for reproductive purposes to the concept of an elective surgery that has the exclusive purpose of preventing pregnancy: a vasectomy. Vasectomies are covered by most insurance policies. Viagra and other ED drugs are covered by many policies - erectile dysfunction is, after all a "recognized medical condition." So it's okay for insurance companies to pay for medication and treatment for the exclusive purpose of enabling men to have sex and reducing the consequences, but it's inappropriate to provide drugs or medication that serve more than just that purpose (although that IS the primary purpose) for women? That's not unfair or discriminatory at all. The "issue" is a strawman for the overall concept of affordable health care - which people really do seem to want - but it's being framed in the context of an over-reaching and intrusive government - which people don't want. That's why "prescription medication" is somehow a religious freedom issue and no female "religious experts" were permitted to testify at the hearing on birth control. umm, the GOP presidential candiates should have no problem directly distancing themselves from Mr. Limbaugh . . . urp . . . . The GOP's women's caucus . . . hmm The strongest rebuke from the House speaker . . . "inappropriate." Wow, that's a stunning rebuke. About the closest thing to a severe finger wagging at Mr. Limbaugh was from Carly Fiorina, who ran in California . . . It's incendiary and most of all, it's a distraction. It's a distraction from what are very real and important issues," the former chief executive of Hewlett-Packard said. Calling someone's daughter, wife, sister, mother, girlfriend or friend a slut and a prostitute, without even meeting or knowing that woman, will resulti in some sort of beating Last edited by MTI; 03-02-2012 at 06:32 PM. |

Great pic, I had to send that to a friend of mine. He's both a computer geek (no front panel on his PC either) and loves dogs, so it's a double win for him.

I think I've already said this . . . had Limbaugh gone after a politician, celebrity or other notable, this would have been a non-event . . . heck, he derisively called Danica Patrick a "woman driver" . . . but he didn't, he went over the line after "a civilian" . . . and as a result has made her a celeb. When did Maher do that?
