My favorite is when you're in line for that ONE diesel pump when at least half the other gas pumps are empty but of course....the one fool who came in from the other end of the station HAS to take that one pump
![]() Thankfully the station closest to home, and usually the cheapest in the area has a diesel only pump. I can be in and out faster then I Honda owner can fill it's tank

Good thing there wasn't somebody at the other end of the car you're waiting to leave, also waiting to get the same spot

Yes, many people are in no hurry to accomplish anything in their lifetime. I believe that's why the term "midlife crisis" exists. I just pay attention and make little mental notes of those things which don't really make good sense, or are just inefficient. I'm not talking about having a nice stroll on the beach or relaxing in a hammock. Things like hallway or sidewalk conferences, two vehicles parked at idle in the roadway while the drivers have a chat, stopping just inside a busy doorway to put on/take off jacket, adjust luggage etc. Life is too short to get wound-up about such things, but I'm just interested in watching the silly little things that people do, because I don't think I'll get out of this world alive, nor will I enjoy it unless I can have a laugh about it.

Very nicely written. Usually I pump my diesel at night or at least aside from peak hours.
Had a similar incident recently. Gas-pumpers were feuling and occupying curb space on any given side of the islands, no way to get in between to the 1 diesel pump. I wait with distance, almost blocking the drive way, to catch the next possible space. There it goes. I was ready to go in either direction, but as it happens I had to swivel around and back up into the vacating space, while artistically letting the lady drive off at the same time. Just as she cleared out and I zeroed in on the pump, a swift little Audi comes around the corner from the other side and seriously wants to jump in. I do no braking until about a couple of inches away from his abruptly yielding bumper, locking him in at a 45 degree angle toward the pump I was nicely lined up, but still not close enough to get the nozzle into the filler, as he shouts out his window "can you pull forward?" I shouted back:"No I need the Diesel pump!" Oh! So he backs up, pulls forward, but sure enough, stopped his freckin' Audi so far away from the island that he was almost closing the passage between him and the p/u on the island next to it! I am just so glad I'm not 25 anymore. It would have cost a whole lot of trouble in this gas station, on this particular afternoon.

Now, it doesn't only happen at gas stations.
Today in the gym locker room, for example. Here comes this kid, dripping wet from the shower area getting ready to dry off, right next to me in front of the lockers. I was about >that close< to ask him, if he knows the fundamental difference between 'wet & dry' as in the syntax of: Shower = wet, locker room = dry .... well, I dropped the case

I don't claim to be innocent of doing something silly. Case in point: ![]() The van was at the diesel pump, I backed in to wait, the other car pulled in afterward. The other vehicles had just pulled in at the other side and diesel pump. Patience paid off.

The best is when they pull into that spot and their tank is on the wrong side. Then to cover the issue they pull/stretch the hose over their car. That's hilarious to watch.

Maybe a bit too much. But a taser would really en-lighten him, especially in that environment.

first, THIS:
Supertramp: The Logical Song Roger Hodgson songwriter and composer - YouTube When I was young, it seemed that life was so wonderful, a miracle, oh it was beautiful, magical. And all the birds in the trees, well they'd be singing so happily, oh joyfully, oh playfully watching me. But then they sent me away to teach me how to be sensible, logical, oh responsible, practical. And then they showed me a world where I could be so dependable, oh clinical, oh intellectual, cynical. There are times when all the world's asleep, the questions run too deep for such a simple man. Won't you please, please tell me what we've learned I know it sounds absurd but please tell me who I am I said now watch what you say they'll be calling you a radical, a liberal, oh fanatical, criminal. Won't you sign up your name, we'd like to feel you're acceptable, respectable, oh presentable, a vegetable! Oh Take it take it yeah! But at night, when all the world's asleep, the questions run so deep for such a simple man. Won't you please, please tell me what we've learned I know it sounds absurd but please tell me who I am, Who I am Who I am Who I am !!! But I'm thinking so logical. Did you call one two three four It's getting ...unbelievable.. To THIS!!!! The Topical Song (Barron Knights, 1979) Remember it? *********** When I was young All the gas was so plentiful Bountiful, oh, liberal My tank was full And all the pumps on the street They would dangle so happily Joyfully, oh, playfully filling me And then a shortage arose And I tried to be sensible Logical, economical, responsible And now they doubled the price Filling up can be ludicrous Ridiculous, I get furious Impetuous There are lines that Stretch across the land How much can we withstand They're holding back the fuel So instead, in traffic jams I fight Crouched on my sister's bike I really look the fool I said watch where you park Cause they siphon in after dark What a lark, oh, and when you start There's just a spark And if you run in line You'll be pushed out in double time And soon you'll find, oh, you'll Be behind the last car sign Oh, pump it, pump it Pump it, yeah Don't you think It's getting out of hand Pumping out with a gas can Don't tell me it's all gone They say odds and Evens will see a few Please tell me what to do The lines are far too long They're so long They're so long They're so long
