Can't argue there. Ofcourse, comedians will have to reflect within mainstream society's perspectives, else there be no connection.
I also agree, that most popular 'genres' of comedy are presented with strong satirical flavor. You can find this type of flavor in a vast majority of comedy stunts and sketches. Which should actually tell us something about the nature of humor we are prone to.

There is no line that can be drawn clearly anywhere, but once a comedian crosses the threshold from a general satirical presentation to politically partisan, it's rather obvious who and what he lends his talents to, which than, in most cases, infringes the purity of humoresque scurrility, no matter how bizarre.

Btw. sex may closely rival politics as a preferred topic in popular comedy.

I am old school when it comes to comedy. Maher doesn't even show up on my radar.

I don't think Maher is particularly funny. So, what makes a comedian a comedian? I can't imaging he could even stage as a clown.

I watched the video, and I went to the website.

Yes, Maher's an ass and I don't think he's particularly funny; but what does that have to do with the SHE PAC that produced the video?

It apparently was founded several days before Limbaugh's tirade. Maher's donation - according to OpenSecrets.org - was also before the hearings where Limbaugh went off, which also breaks down the linkage somewhat. The timing was coincidental - Maher donated on Feb 28th, then Limbaugh went off on the 29th.

The first reference I can find to SHE PAC is Feb 24th, so that predates both Maher and Limbaugh, so it's probably not a sham PAC; but, there's also no filing by SHE PAC, or the key organizers at either the FEC or OpenSecrets.org, as of today. SHE PAC appears to exist on a website only, with a single ad, that repeatedly re-emphasizes statements (by Maher) that are crude and offensive to women...and this from a PAC that is run by women, to elect women?

"Bill Maher is offensive to women. Donate to us or Obama will win." Is that their message? Are they going to nominate a conservative woman running mate for President? Or is this taking advantage of a situation that they should find offensive on BOTH sides (Limbaugh and Maher) but only going after Maher and Obama? Okay, I guess. You go girl...

Maher was fairly good back in his "Politically Incorrect" days, lampooning any and all regardless of political stripe.

But somewhere over the past few years, he has turned into an angry, bitter, opinionated shill for one side of the political divide. No clue what prompted the change.

Maher's not the only one - I used to enjoy watching Dennis Miller - until he sold his soul to Fox, GWB, and the R's several years ago.

Perhaps in both cases it was simply pure greed - someone finally waved enough money and perks in their faces to get them to shill for their side - the old saying "every man has his price".

Agree entirely with the assessment of Maher and Miller. Two guys I used to enjoy watching because they found humor regardless of political affiliation. Now they are just a couple partisan db's whose humor has suffered greatly with the change.

This is easy, JP.

On the one hand, Rush was expressing his opinion about a woman whose politics and worldview were disagreeable to him.

On the other, Maker was expressing his opinion about women whose politics and worldview were disagreeable to him.

The situations are as different as night and...later that same night.
