Trying to remove a 2nd row seat in my 300TD with an air tool one of the center bolts almost went through one of our skulls... it broke the bulb in the lamp we were working with!

Too late. I got light-headed and queasy and collapsed on the floor for about a minute before I could compose myself and finish pulling that staple out...
Ouch!

On one of my suburbans with the cursed side mount battery bolts I was trying to tighten the cable with this ridiculously small wrench which was required and touched the wrench against the body work.

Being the positive cable the wrench instantly created a dead short and started getting hot. Moving instantly in my catlike mode I grabbed the wrench to pull it out but was not fast enough and by the time I grabbed the wrench it was red hot. The wrench actually melted at that point and fell off the connection.

I looked at my thumb and finger and they each had this exact imprint in them of the wrench in black, looking just like the marks on a hot dog from the grill. I said "great, I have cooked my fingers!"

I feared a long and painful recovery but it turned out to be very superficial and nearly completely painless.

It was very exciting though.

As a serious note, my BIL got a bit of loose shirtsleeve caught in a feed auger and it sucked his whole arm into the auger. When it got in as far as it would go it began grinding on him. He stopped it by pulling the gas line off the little gas motor that powered the auger. He then had to stand there until someone came looking for him, which was a few hours IIRC.

It did not end well and he had about five surgeries on his hand but it now is basically a semi usable claw.

Moving machinery is very very dangerous so always be careful around it.

My dad knew a fellow who lost one or two of his testicals on a power takeoff.

Guys get thrown off ladders by binding half inch drive drills very frequently...they'll just keep spinning until they unplug themselves.

I knew a fellow who got his hair caught in a spinning driveshaft OUCH!

I once nearly rammed myself against the garage wall with my 52 pontiac ambulance, just jumping out of the way in time. (a jacking accident that ended with no serious harm).

Doing physical work is dangerous stuff!

Unhappy *** "As humourous as some of these stories are...some aren't quite so..." ***

This past December...the guy, working on my 280E, finished up as far as he could with it that day...

He moved it out of the bay, then hopped into a Jag, drove it into the bay that has a two-post lift.

He hoisted the Jag and started towards his bench, just in front of the lift.

He must have heard something, 'cause they found him, about 5 seconds after it fell, sandwiched between his bench and Jag, with the Jag about mid-section of his midsection.

Coroner says the death was instant.

Of course, OSHA showed up but all they could figure out was that he didn't position the Jag properly and it slipped. The frame was in good shape...even after the fall.

Kevin Ryan was only 49, had a wife and two daughters.

He was the shop's only Mercedes mechanic...a position he took over after his father (again, the only Mercedes mechanic) had passed away from cancer about 20 years before...this was relayed to me by the shop's owner...

It is tragic.

But, back to a lighter note.....did I ever tell you about the time I set the Ferrari's engine on fire?

I almost had a heart attack before i got it put out.....

Well, you need both of course.....more important though is to know when to use on and when to use the other.....

IE after putting the Ferrari fire out with the extinguisher I then needed the use of the tp! To use them in the wrong order would have been disasterous!
