maan was i thrilled at buying my first diesel merc

started getting acquainted, looking her over, fixing stuff, oil leaks etc,

read about the oil lines, fixed em up doot do doo..

everything fine for the next wk of city driving and was all set for a little trip up north.

beautiful, average cruise up was ~ 80 mph,

time to come home now and the weather was perfect with fine tunes,

settled into a ~ 65 mph cruise and was just marveling at the benz wonders,

all of of sudden ..the tone of the engine changed..

oil line burst and now had a knockety knock going on,

made it home though for the next 3 hrs, with a temp repair

got a few used engines in the meantime and should be good to go soon again

Hey! Don't be talking about cars and such. This is "open discussion"!

Here's a good one. Non car related, While working on the steam engine I volunteer with, I was torquing down on a piston stoke holder nut, very large wrench slipped off and slammed right into my foot.

and another, working on a lawn mower I dropped a very heavy clutch on my left arm, and the mowing deck on the right.... should have seen the bruises.

I make a blood sacrifice whenever I open a toolbox.

It's religious observance to please Hephaestus. The lame god who jealously guards his technology against the unworthy.

I've punched a frame rail when the ratchet disengaged....I've dropped a 17mm wrench on my face when changing an alternator, chipped a tooth. With each injury one becomes more paranoid and careful. I now wear science lab type goggles when doing many repairs.

I have done the worst damage probably when working on the car and being angry at the same time. Best to stop and cool down before proceeding. Also not a good idea to drink and work on the car.
