Would-Be Copper Thief ‘Extremely Grave’ After He’s Shocked And Catches On Fire « CBS Los Angeles

Quote:
SAN BERNARDINO (CBS) — A would-be copper thief was gravely injured early Saturday morning when he attempted to steal copper wiring from a live Edison vault, according to authorities.
Witnesses told CBS2 and KCAL9 reporter Melissa Maynarich that the man could be heard screaming in agony.
Jeff Grammatico was across the street from the substation when he said, “I heard a boom.” He added, “It made me jump from one side of the room to the other.”

33 kV? Unidentifiable? If the guy survives, he'll probably wish he didn't. Not a joking matter.

That's happened a few times around here, I remember not too long ago a guy was killed by trying to steal an electrified 3rd rail.

It says he hasn't yet been 'charged' with a crime.

A year ago, in Baltimore, we had a rash of street light poles stolen--the 40foot ( or so) long ones.

There are whole neighborhoods in Detroit where the street light poles were stolen, along with the underground cable.

I think they took it to another country and installed it

Definitely a Darwin nominee.

As Darwin's Corollary to Murphy's Law states, "You can't fix stupid".

Or as Bill Engval put it, "Here's your sign" - in this case self-illuminating.

Eventually I looked at the banner at the top of the page and realised it all happened in the USA.
