i think the only difference is style between the 740 and 240. if i see one i'll look, but you just can't beat that boxy 240 style!

i've seen and passed up so many amazing wagons with automatic transmissions, but i've got to hold out for that sweet manual. especially in new york winters on the hills of ithaca. i'm starting to get obsessed with finding my immaculate, cheapish, manual 240 wagon white whale.

frosty, i grew up in 80's metal and punk even though i was far too young for it. my cousin got me into it. mohawk, bullet belts, oi oi oi. played cbgbs before it shut down, toured the east coast, all the while getting more and more into death metal over punk. over the last few years i've come to appreciate black metal as it started to mature and branch out into different sounds. the plodding, depressive, and very experimental sounds of cascadian black metal are my new obsession. listening to ash borer as i type this! I had a 1996 Volvo 850 sedan 2.4L 5 cylinder dark blue. That was a nice car, comfy car and had plenty of go with an automatic.

I think an 850 wagon with a 5 speed would be great. Only the fuel consumption wasn't all the awesome in the auto, the manual would maybe be a bit better.

Back in 1970 they were the uber luxury model, but alas, they have not weathered the test of time particularly well for a Volvo of that era.

But (for an example), an old '69 142 coupe, though, those were REALLY tough and durable cars..

My inlaws gave my son their '93 240 wagon when he got his DL at 16. Auto, well maintained high miles. I'd think nothing of taking it across country.
A friend has given him her old 144s 4 speed and it is driving him nuts that I wont let him sell the wagon to fund the 144s repairs
I know the car- mechanically a decent driver, but serious rust/rodent issues. Guys my age get a chuckle out of him wanting to shed a wagon for a 4 speed sedan- back in the day we all wanted to take the family wagon as seats in the sedan did not fold down flat

I'd get an auto now and keep looking till you find a 4 speed.

1988 Volvo 240 Wagon Rare 5 speed, cold a/c - $2700 (Santa Clarita, Newhall, 661)




Here is my really clean 1988 Volvo 245/240 wagon, this car has the rare factory Volvo M47 5 speed transmission. Odometer says 209k but the previous owner drove it with a broken odometer for awhile so the actual miles are close to 230k, dont fret the mileage it is a Volvo! Marks Volvo in Chatsworth said it would probably go another 100k easy! This car runs and drives great with no issues, everything works, cold a/c, new brake master cylinder and clutch cable. The trans shifts great with no pop outs or grinding. The tires are still in great shape and the car has never been wrecked and repaired, clean title in my name with current registration and smog. The previous owner had it painted an original Volvo off white color at Maaco because the original gold paint had clear coat peel on the hood and roof, it looks very nice but is not perfect. The interior is very good except for the front seats, the previous owner installed the sheepskins and they are fine for me so I left them on. This car is an xlnt daily driver and is ready to go. Current registartion, pinkslip in my name and current smog. $2700 obo please call or text only, I will not respond to emails due to spam. Thanks for looking!

The 240 had the 4+OD till the mid-80s, then it changed over to the 5-speeder. I think the turbo 740s had the 4+OD till the end -- I drove a friend's 1991 with the overdrive.

I consider myself a brick nut, but I must confess I never liked the 700 or 900 series styling and design. I do like the 850 and S/V70. My interest in Volvo actually stops at the S/V70. Two friends recently purchased Volvos, one a '97 850 T5 and the other a '98 S70 T5. My other friend has a '98 S70 T5 and I have my 245. We need to put a Volvo meet together!

Years ago I scored a set of iPd front and rear sway bars for...wait for it...FREE! Found it on Craigslist for x amount. Drove there and the guy said I could have them free. They came off his daughter's 240 that got wrecked, if my memory is correct. The 240 is a DIYer's car. So easy to work on.

Squabble, I like more of the old school BM bands from the 90s. Not too big on some of the newer bands out these days, but then again I haven't really been keeping up with the scene. A friend recommended Kroda, but I haven't really gave them a good listen yet. I like old Burzum independent of his political views. I'm totally digging Borknagar, though it's really hard to define their style.
