Help Finding a Volvo Wagon?
i know, i know, it's not an MB. but, i like them and i can't stand to drag a mercedes through the upstate new york salt!
i'm in the market for a very good to excellent, rust free, volvo 240 series wagon with a manual transmission. specific i know but beggers can be choosers now as it's a long way off until winter and this will be our third vehicle, so no one is vehicle-less. i'd also like to avoid a white car if possible. anyone know of good, active forums for finding one? i'm searching craigslist and ebay but it's slim pickings. anyone know of a decent one in their area? or a volvo shop with a good online inventory page? obviously the closer to new york state the better but salt becomes an issue the closer you get... any tips? thanks!

Craigslist. When I bought mine, it actually took me a few months to find a good one, and that was ca. 2005. I'd also look at the 4-cyl 740 and 940-series cars.
As far as I remember, brickboard.com was a decent forum. |

yeah, i'm doing the craigslist thing but i think i'm in the market for a car that is a little nicer than what's typically out there. here's one i got my hopes up about and sent an e-mail. no reply yet: 1989 VOLVO 240 DL WAGON with manual transmission. want something that's just good to go and ready to drive, but not a restored collectors car!
they are one of the best cars ever built, a little funny looking but i love it!

go to the source
The best ones out there are owned by the enthusiasts who love and cherish them; but sometimes circumstances change and forum members have to have to sell their beloved brick.
So go to the premier discussion site and look there The Volvo Resource: brickboard.com

Brickboard is an excellent resource guide. Btw, I used to think the 240 was one of the ugliest cars ever made, but now I think they are one of the neatest looking cars on the road today. They definitely have a lot of character and are distinctively Volvo. I'm a bit partial to Volvo wagons. Here's my panzerwagon, a 1989 245DL:

My parents had a 1983 245 Turbo wagon 4spd+OD with the intercooler added on. Bought it brand new. Lots great memories with that car, was grey with black leather interior, a special order. Moved pretty good under boost! Sold it a couple years to a guy in Germany.
Check out turbobricks.com as well for cars 4 sale |

thanks for the help guys, i'll be crawling the brickboard forums starting later today. i'm still searching craigslist in my free time but, just my luck, search tempest is having coding issues with the new craigslist layout so it's a bit mixed up. i've got an ebay alert as well.
and yes frosty, my avatar is the logo for drudkh, my hands down favorite black metal band. are you a fan of the genre? been a metal and punk fan for about 20 years now. really been into the cascadian black metal sound and more depressive, moody stuff over the frantic, raw black metal of my younger years.

Cool, I'm a fan of that genre including death and doom metal. In college I was more into the death metal stuff, particularily Suffocation, Internal Bleeding, Carcass, etc. and doom metal bands such as My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost (old stuff), Anathema (old stuff), Paramaecium (great Christian doom). Wasn't too big into BM then, but now I'm rediscovering it. Lately I've been listening to a lot of Scandinavian folk metal such as Otyg and Lumsk. Big fan of Nightwish (Tarja era) and Tristania (Vibeke era) and other bands with female sopranos. I don't keep up with the scene and what's out there these days, but I still very much like the music. I wish there were more occassions to rock my bullet belt
![]() Anyway, I think Volvo is a very metal car After all it came from the place that gave us Swedish melodic death metal.

even though you are specifically looking for the 240 series, I can't say enough about the 740 series. I had an 88 wagon 5-speed for 5 years. First car, I bought when 15, and its still on the road out in CO somewhere.
If one of those pops up too, grab it.

What is the basic difference between the 240 and 740? Are the engines the same ( 4 banger)?
