How is any of that different from any other policy maker? He thinks the status quo gives too much of an advantage to those at the top, so he advocates policies that address that imbalance. Others disagree with his position. They advocate different policies. Somehow, this makes him a socialist. I don't get it.

To me the question is much more elemental....who do I fear? The overzealous government? ....sometimes.

But turning it all over to big corporations and trusting them to do what is right is much more frightening to me.
This is interesting. At the moment I'm driving a Ford Flex the company I'm freelancing for rented for me from Enterprise. When I hit 75mph it starts to beep to let me know that I'm hitting the limiter that is set at 80mph, yes Enterprise doesn't want me to go faster then 80mph. But that's not all; they also put a limiter on the volume of the stereo!! And to enforce the use of the seat belt the radio quiets 'till I fasten my seat belt. Nanny state enforced by the big corporations.

I have as much fear of big corps as I do of big government, even more, when the two combine.

You really don't see the socialism?

If it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it might just be a duck.
If Obama's policies on the economy sound like that which was advocated by Karl Marx, then maybe he qualifies as a Marxist. no?

Not socialist in the traditional sense. Not capitalist in the traditional sense.

One poster in a thread a while back called him a corporatist. That seems to fit him better, given the results of the last 3 years.

He knows money is the power behind politics and government in this country. "Corporatist" in the sense he seems to be forging a "corporation" consisting of the federal government, big business, big unions, and big finance, for the benefit of all four - and no one else.

Mere disagreement doesn't reveal anybody's particular political philosophy.

And what's wrong with being a social democrat? Europe is full of them. The uSA has more every day. It's just another philosophy. I don't see why one should run from it.

Not that any labels are all that useful--I'd call GW a corporatist, and Obama a socialist--if he could do what he wants. The situation may not allow him to go as far as he would like, but I believe that is where his heart is.

No, I don't. It's not even close. If the center is defined with reference to administrations during my lifetime, then Obama is just to the right of center.

If he's a Marxist, then so was Ronald Reagan.

Neither do I. I just don't see what that label has to do with Obama.
