I want to buy a padlock. Must withstand a 9mm round. 5/16" shackle. Any suggestions?

Didn't they used to show a Master lock withstanding a 30 06 round?

One of those must be as powerful as a 9mm.

Sorry, never shot a round at a padlock so I can't help. I do like the round padlocks which limit access to the hasp for cutting.

I think they only shoot padlocks in movies.

The disc style locks hold up better to the angle grinders than a normal padlock.

No padlock is able to keep a thief out...they are meant only to keep honest people honest.

Good luck with that. I think that a good disc lock might slow 'em down a bit. That's assuming that it isn't easier to compromise the hasp, latch, etc.

Friend of mine had a small business with a 6 foot chain link fence around it. He used a very stout looking disk padlock on the rolling gate. One night, someone used an angle grinder to cut through it and they stole an expensive equipment trailer. Lock looked like this:



What I can't understand is why someone would go to the trouble of cutting through a hardened industrial lock when they could have much more easily cut the galvanized steel of the fence latch. Or they could have removed a couple of bolts with a Crescent wrench and simply removed the latch.

Damn! But no, I'm trying to protect some bicycles. There's been a spate of forced garage entries lately in the area. I have two Kryptonite chains. I'm using one already but the second one needs a lock.

And when I said "cut through" the disk lock above, I didn't mean just the shackle (the part that moves). On the lock he used, the exposed part of the shackle was very small, even to the point of making the lock a PIA to install on the latch. No, this thief cut the entire disk in half.

I'd like to know what type of cutting wheel he used. It was really quite impressive.
