It is not racist for people who have suffered racism to band together to alleviate the effects that racism has had on them. No matter how hard you want it to be.
What you seem to be saying is that whether a group's exclusion of a person of different race is racist or not depends on whether you agree with their reason or not. IMO, regardless of reason, exclusion based on race is racism be it white, black, yellow, brown, green or purple.

Well that is good to hear. I thought I heard something recently about him not being allowed to Caucus with them. I am glad to see he is a member.

You mean one of the six black Republicans who have been elected since it's inception? Maybe you could do a little research and find out for yourself which ones joined and which ones didn't. Maybe you will see a form of discrimination in that number (6) while you're at it.

Were you one of the boys who wanted to join girls scouts too?? Ya know, sometimes there are groups that form due to a common trait, or a common background or a common purpose, and if you don't have that trait, it's not necessarily discrimination.

So sorry that you are not a black democrat, and will not be invited to join the Congressional Black Caucus if you get elected.
Why would you even want to join? Maybe to try and change their goals, to scuttle their efforts?
Rabble rousing plain and simple.

Aklim, we already know that you wanted to join the Girl Scouts.....

I believe intent is part of any -ism. Groups formed to help people of similar nature are not the same as groups formed to denigrate or exclude a different group. Girl Scouts do not plan bombings of Boy Scout camps, they do not oppose the election of Boy Scouts, they do not attempt to gerrymander Boy Scout voting areas, they do not attempt to create standardized testing in our schools which favors Girls Scouts and prejudices Boy Scouts, and they do not burn totem poles on Boy Scout lawns.

Yes it is, and if you want, you can join the NAAWP.

National Association for the Advancement of White People

Personally I find the intent of that group to be despicable, but maybe it's your kinda thing.

But if you read their site, you will hopefully come away with a simple fact. Reverse discrimination, which you brought up early in this thread is not nearly as pervasive as you would like to believe. Most examples (like the one you posted) are not racism at all, but rather are an attempt to overcome the effect that racist policies have had on their members.

Somehow, I think you know that already, and you are likely just experiencing the knee-jerk syndrome.

Why not? Never wanted to go to the girl's locker room to peek at what they have? I know I have.

Now you just made it very fluid. The Aryan Nation or the Klan feels that the white man is being put down so their group is to promote the white man. Based on that statement, as long as they don't do something violent, can the case be made that they are of good intent? I think so while I would not accept it. What is the underlying principle then? "Depends on how much I like your explanation for exclusion"? The military brass used to feel that gays were detrimental to the service. Are we to be assuaged into the idea that it isn't discriminatory? I think not. If the case is decided on "it depends", there is no principle. What you have boiled it down to is YOUR perception of the credibility of their stated goals. What happens tomorrow when your perception chances? What happens if your opinion is tainted because you have a "so and so" or yourself that benefited from them and thus willing to go along with their stated goals? What standards do you have then?

We're in a society that seems to be increasingly polarized and (aside from your example, but reaching to the subject you chose) that's a label that carries so much negativism it's often used as to hamstring the speaker.

Perfect example: criticize Obama and you'll often hear the racist label attach...and good luck climbing out of the hole.

As to the invite...well, it takes all kinds. Maybe his narrow-mindedness (and the reference to a dish to share) means "black" attendees would bring "black" foods and he doesn't care for chitlins, watermelon and whatever else the stereotype suggests? While his attitude sickens me (and you wouldn't find me in attendance at the function as a result), I'd hate to live in a society where people are told who they must invite into their homes.

The perfect irony would be a white classmate whose spouse was black. Of course the classmate would likely be "uninvited" anyway.

Sorry that the world is all shades of grey, but it is.

We judge people and groups by their actions. The actions of a group which benefit their members without causing harm to others will generally be tolerated, and the actions of a group which result in harm or foul to people not of their group will not.

Well & ACCURATELY stated.

A great example of this is the fact that when Condy Rice, Alan West and several other black conservatives spoke at the RNC convention, MSNBC conveniently reported on the hurricane or whatever other convenient issues that they could talk about. They tried to make it look as if there was not a black face in the entire hall.

The Democrats want SO much for people to believe that conservatives are AUTOMATICALLY racists. NOTHING could be further from the truth. I am a conservative, not necessarily a Republican and I even came very close to marrying someone of a COMPLETELY different race. I don't believe that I have a racist bone in my body. I don't think you could find anyone who knows me personally that would not completely agree, regardless of THEIR color.

The democrats, as a general rule, actually show LOTS of prejudice toward conservatives in this regard. But, of course, they're democrats so it's absolutely okay.

Actually when it comes right down to it, ANY judgment of someone based solely on their skin pigmentation is STUPID. I personally base my like/dislike or agree/disagree on what is in a persons mind and heart and in their actions. Pigmentation has nothing to do with it.

Say it often enough and it will become true. But life is so much more rich than bigots can see.

Many southern Democrats vote Repo on national and other fed offices but vote demo on local gov. So they are either racist Democrats on the national level and local bon vivants, or they are voting their convictions despite the party lines.

So you are saying none of the racists became R's? They are still D's?

What you don't realize is that in the south, even the white democrats are conservative or moderate. They may vote either way in an election. Racism is not tied to one particular party. I have several acquaintances that vote for the democratic party, but have very racist views.

Does that help?

I think it's obvious that both of our political parties have members who are racist.

The question being nit-picked is which has more.

So I ask, which party has more racists?

Are the racist groups out there predominantly R or D kind of voters?

Or, is it those damn independents who have all the racists?
