If I ran into SRJ on the street I would shake his hand and say hello. then I would tell him about my growing admiration of his hero Buffet.

I wish him no harm.....

I would not say I miss him here.

Buffet is according to the book the same one on one as in any situation. He is honest and straightforward and supremely ethical. If he bought railroad stock he must think it will either grow a lot or throw off a lot of cash.
I think Buffett purchased control rather than just an interest of the railroad. Largest existing railroad network in the states? This was such a major move by him that for awhile I wondered if I should have brought some of the stock as well. This based on him never seemingly making misteaks on the really larger aquisitions.

I kind of understand the stock market in a very limited way. Trust for it being run in an ethical manner is another thing. I have advised people to go buy a major sized modern apartment building in the past rather than mutual funds if they had a lot of cash on hand. The majority of the ones that still purchased the mutual funds regretted buying the funds.

At least that way they always know where they stand. The brick and mortar thing again. Plus they are really profatable if investigated properly before purchase. Expecting a basic stranger to act only in my interests with the stocks is a bit of a stretch for me and always has been.

One of Buffet's concepts is to buy control then particiapte in major decisions. Sometimes he hires a new person to run it but sometimes he buys the business and hires the previous owner to keep running it.

He owns (at the time of the book) the largest furniture store in Omaha outright. He keeps the family running it. It sells something like 2/3 of all the furniture and carpet in Omaha and ships to other cities as well.

He sets priorities and leaves his managers to run the business...then takes the profits and buys something else.

However, Buffett’s succession is the biggest matter of concern for the shareholders. He is already 82 years old and has been suffering medical complications. Though he announced that a competent successor has been chosen, the identity remains undisclosed. Nevertheless, there is an air of uncertainty about the performance of the company under the new CEO. In our view, it would be a very difficult job for any new management to be able to make the company perform like it did under Buffett and Munger.

The above is from your link.

Could the mystery man be SRJ?

I thought you were looking for a professional position.
Is there something you are not telling us just yet?

That was a year ago. I am pretty happy now with managing my real estate, doing consulting and teaching part time at PU.

there may be a full time teaching position opening there and to enable the Mrs. to retire I am considering doing that because it offers health insurance.
