Is the gene pool improving?

According to the Park Service, only 8 people have died so far this year in Grand Canyon, compared to 21 last year.

Or maybe stupid people are just staying home more.

It's not improving, based upon my observations during the drive to work this morning . . . I would tend to say things are moving in the opposite direction.

The other possibility is that it is getting worse but the people are getting so dumb they cannot fine the canyon anymore.

What sort of infraction was the canyon committing that justified the fines in the first place?

Being a car forum - I had a similar discussion with an interesting individual.

She complained that her dad's old Maxima is too touchy on the gas pedal. She drives something called a Honda fit which has the worlds laziest DBW system. She also did not care that her car lacks a temperature guage. She said the only gauge she ever sees is the speedo or the fuel - and Honda put just those and a tach. She also cannot parallel park if she were to park on the side of an aircraft runway.

I cannot understand how are people like her get a license, furthermore she could not understand how to read oldschool roadmaps. Her reasoning is GPS is eveywhere. So has the gene pool gone bad or something else that Im missing.

Gene pool is just fine. Skills like prallel parking, reading engine gauges and maps are no longer required. You are the dinosaur, my friend, heading for extinction. Your lady friend is a rung, or two, higher on that evolutionary ladder than you ( or me).

If you live in a city parallel parking is absolutely required, you can't live without it. Also in some cities like New Haven the curbs are granite and sharp, so they are very, very unforgiving if you curb your wheel, ie you will ruin it. Also the GPS signal doesn't always work so you better be able to read street signs. In NYC I have lost GPS signal between the buildings before.

I vote for stupid.
