Ditto. I have a brother monochrome wireless that cost under a hundred, my son has the same model at university. Brother freely admits that the toner cartridge that came with it is a half full unit, but I've yet to use it up with medium printing needs. My kid prints like crazy and his starter cartridge lasted the entire school year.
I got fed up with an expensive wireless Epson inkjet all in one that ALWAYS had at least one of it's six colors nearly empty, and that lost it's connection to my computers constantly. Every print job was an exercise in blood pressure and heart rate. It's now a really expensive scanner.
Realized I hardly ever really need color and when I do I can put the files on a thumb drive or upload them to Office Max's website and have them printed for a dime a page and ready by the time I get to town. Screw inkjets.

That won't help with printing. There haven't been Apple branded printers in at least a generation. I had an enormous old Apple Laser printer, SCSI connection, remember those, in my classroom for years. Bullet proof and indeed made by Canon.
Apples now come with built in drivers for nearly every printer maker that provides Mac drivers for it's machines.
It's rare to plug a new Mac into a recent printer and not have it instantly recognized and on line.

Apple hasn't sold it's own label printers since . . . 1997 Laserwriter? Did they stop after they killed their odd serial printer port?

Pretty soon after. 98 maybe. The LaserWriters came with SCSI, or Serial, or both. Seems to me they may have even had E-Net ports, I seem to recall having more than one machine connected to mine. It's about time the CLK man joined the 21st century and discovered OS X I'd say.
