Anyone know about Porsche 968s?

Found a really awesome deal on one locally, but it needs carrier bearings.

Car overall is a 9.5/10 - perfect interior, exterior needs some paintless dent removal, but otherwise is perfect.

My question is - how hard is it to replace carrier bearings? Am I better off with a rebuild/refresh, or used unit?

So we've gone from 911 GT3 to entry level..... "Is this the one with the van engine?"

(Yes I know it's not the same car but I stand by the joke.)

How big was the brick that landed on your head or is this not Justin?

Actually, am still looking for a GT3, but this just came up at such an awesome deal, its hard to pass up.

And ask Hatty. A Ferrari might have rolled into the picture now too....

I have always liked the slippery body on the 924-968 cars. One of the most wind cheating shapes this side of a gen 1 insight.

What kind of carrier bearing? Are you talking something inside the transmission, or the carrier bearing that holds up the driveshaft?

The latter is a piece of cake to replace. Mark the driveshaft, take it off, separate it into halves, replace the bearing, put everything back together.

On a W126 that'd be a 30-minute job.

A 944/968 is the best sports car deal, bar none.

These cars have rear mounted transmissions for even weight distribution. Replacing the carriers is actually quite an effort. Shop around for prices at your local Porsche specialists before deciding if it's as good a bargain as you may think.

I have to do the same job on my 928, some time down the road when I finish up with my other cars.

911 is the one true Porsche (okay, 356 may get to play also). All others are things you wish to avoid.

And maybe he 912, but don't pay 911 money for one. 914's are fun and all, but are still not worth any more than a beetle. 968=abomination. Don't even get me started on the Cayenne.

No Porsche used a Mercedes Benz V8. The 928's with the V8 engines used MB automatic transmissions.
