I'd rather just do the introduction or dating at work thing (provided we both can be discreet). I'm old-fashioned that way I guess.

No interest in a sugar momma, since the irony is that I'm likely better off than most Americans. Not wealthy, just very comfy.

so are you saying that if a hot older woman wanted to set you up in a penthouse apartment and a spending account, you would say no?

In all seriousness, comingling financial affairs before you're married is waaaay too complicated. I like having my own apartment and own sources of income.

Now that spuddy's love life is on track...

I don't spend a whole lot of time wondering if I'm happy or not. Introspection is over rated.

It depends. With the girl who lives paycheck to paycheck, hell no. OTOH, with someone of Bill Gates wealth, I'll deal with the complication.

There are things that I wish were different/better/etc., but I will say that I am first content and that I am happy. If you are not content there will never be any happiness.

status update

Yes, I'm happy. I'm adjusting to my new (recently separated) lifestyle. Am I where I thought I would be 10 years ago? No. Am I content? No --- I want more.

If my soon to be ex can remain civil, we might be able to work out the remaining details of our divorce without racking up huge attorney fees. I'm hopeful.

I had a great time yesterday celebrating my youngest daughter's birthday. She's the priority of my life at present.

Time marches on......

With family, friends, business, health? Yes. (Although I've been missing my mom lately.)

Unfortunately the financial stresses of our desire for my wife to be able to continue being a stay-at-home mom are really starting to mount. We're not living an extravagant lifestyle by any means and we've all but run out of expenses to cut. I guess that's why everyone else we know are dual income families and try to get my wife to watch their kids when there's no school.

I'm debating on giving up driving, can't walk well without a cane, and am quickly headed back to the walker. If I could go back to have a do-over on life, I'd find another trade to follow.

Luckily, and I mean that I'm a real lucky guy on this, I have a wife that told me that she signed on for the long haul, in sickness and in health, for richer or poorer, for the rest of her life. Because of this, I feel as if I'm not in this alone, and that makes me a lucky man.
Dang. Sorry to hear that, Jon. Glad you've got the right woman by your side!

Yes, I am happy. Married the woman I fell in love with and she and her sense of humor are still with me. I love my job, it is truly different each and every day. I am called "mentor" by a number of young men and women who I have helped change their lives theough education and opportunity. I was recently left enough money that I will never have to worry about paying for my retirement, my Havana cigars or my Single Malt. I get hit on by nice looking women all the time.

The less I think about happiness or setting it up as a goal, the more content I am.

If there's being happy, then there's being sad. If I can understand that pain and suffering are part of being content and to further understand that it's part of life, it all worth it... so happiness is something I don't want to achieve.

Some irony in your POV. I think you are correct that the more one focuses on being happy, the less happy you become. Focusing on "self" may not be conducive to being happy.
Let me add, that I enjoy the journey; not necessarily the destination. For example, I had great joy in the process of restoring the Falcon Sprint Convertible, but not so much on OWNING it. My wife could not understand how i could sell it after I completed it. The joy was in the doing.

Sorry to hear about your health issues. Always sucks to suffer. I agree Peg is a keeper, especially since she's married to a character who has a mind much like my own. You can add to your happiness by doing what I did. Find something to believe in. As for me, I believe I'll have another cigar.
