Ever Try the Ignore Function on this Forum?
For those of you who might not be aware, it is very easy to put a poster on IGNORE so you don't have to read their posts. It is a very nice feature. If there is a poster that bothers you in some way, just click on the User CP and select "Edit Ignore List." Even if you don't know their exact poster ID, get close and selections will appear for you to choose from.
If there is someone whose posts get under your skin, you can simply ignore them rather than cause ulcers for yourself and cause a bunch of grief for the moderators. It works great! Give it a try.

The problem with using the "IGNORE" function is that when others who aren't "IGNORING" the Ignoree decide to "QUOTE" the ignoramus in their responses.
Sorta' takes the wind out of the "IGNORE" sails a bit. Small price to pay for sanity.

I tried to put myself on ignore, but it didn't work for some reason.

Never bothered me. I can mentally ignore them and gloss over what they typed without using the ignore function.
