I'm a big fan of K&N air filters for their breathability and durability. But I am interested in the viewpoints of others regarding the performance of an oil treated cotton medium when the temperature drops.
Let me start by saying that I live in Maine (USA). The temperatures here are routinely well below freezing for five months of the year. Now we all know what happens to oil at cold temperatures: it gets thicker. So the question is, will the "thickening" of the oil coating in a K&N filter significantly affect the flow of air through the element? Thanks in advance for your thoughts. |

Proper introduction
"Bear",
Thanks for bringing my bad manners to my attention. This is my first thread, and I appear to have not followed protocol. My appologies. My signature now includes my current vehicles, and I'll expand a little on my question about air filters. I have installed a "drop-in" K & N air filter in the stock air-cleaner of my MB 190E. Not because I'm trying to make this a road racer, but because it offers superior filtering, less restrictive air flow, and is guaranteed to last for 10 years or a million miles. Seems like a perfect match for my Benz. Does anyone else have any experience with these. (Especially experience in cold climates.) Thanks in advance, tvpierce
