If Federal, State, or County funds were used to pay for the street, then hopefully a court will tell your town council exactly how to fornicate with itself using a pointy object. As to your neighbor -- tell him to get a car with folding mirrors, or replace the mirror with a folding version.

WTF??? How do you get a citation for driving on public roads? Is there anyway to look this code up? Can cops cite for just random stuff or does there need to be an actual city code or statute to violate? Wouldn't the roads have to be marked for local traffic only or something?

Seems like a load of crap to me. Lets skip the cops are pigs BS as that really is not constructive.

That is most certainly an outrageous citation. The first question that comes to mind though, is this the whole story? If it is, it sounds like there is an attorney somewhere that would love to make a name for himself at no charge.

The folks on the street wanted traffic for local use only and to curtail "non-residents" from zipping through their neighborhood.

CITY COUNCIL: "We'll install 'speed bumps' to keep the ruffians out."

STREET MONGERS: "We don't want 'speed bumps' put down. We want something that allows us only and the ruffians a slap on their @ss where they put their wallets."

CITY COUNCIL: "How 'bout a postage-stamp-sized sign that says "NO CUT-THROUGHS" with some cute hieroglyphic symbol for those that don't read, write or speak the English language...then we can get the low-riders and pimp-mobiles...and cut down on that hustler-trade you folks drag home each evening. We'll set the fine to start out in the $300-$400 range and more for each time that the nimrods should repeat such an outrage. Sound good enough for you?"

STREET MONGERS: "T!TS! DO IT!!"

The 'street mongers' invite the council members over for a street-party, leave a "little envelope" in a convient place for each CM and the signs magically appear overnight, with the appropriate gendarme posted at the right place to catch the wrong personage at the appropriate time.

And life moves backwards towards serfdom...

If points can be assessed for such a ticket, the law must have been made at the state level, no?

I've heard that "NO THRU TRAFFIC" signs are unenforcible in most states.

You're right on that...state-level signage can had additional forfeitures other than just the cash...

Local ordinances can't slap "points" on your record but violations of ordinances that have state-backing behind them...they can. Plus, some munis can slap $$$ onto those fines just as well. Try getting an understandable "seat-belt" ticket around here. One town gigs ya' $10 for the seatbelt, then assesses additional "fees" like...

Court fee
Hugging Trees fees
Dropping the Doughnut fee
etc.....

Across the river, the little town over there socks you $115.00 for not latching the seatbelts. I'm still trying to get my breath to ask if there are additional fees tacked on...

One town jerks you...the other gives you a rectal-papercut...just to the right of your wallet.

Now, if any of these towns (and their related states) have it in the § of the Rules&Regs that allow points to be assessed, then you're done paddling up the creek. Park the canoe and start walking.

It sucks when they need the cash and you're the only one on the dirt road, at night, with THEM in your rear-view mirror.

How's that tail-light holding up there, son?

Yes it is the whole story. We saw the ticket. The only thing on it is the cut through violation. No moving violation on the ticket.

As a side note, I thought you said that only people who lie assume others are lying. Why would you assume that there is more to the story?

If the OP can get a lawyer to prove this in court, possibly multiple court hearings, then he may prevail. But that will likely cost big $$$$. So in the end the $360 is cheaper, and the lesson is: don't go to that flea bag town again! Comparatively cheap education.

I got a bogus (in my opinion) red light ticket in Fife Washington, which is a little town I would always stop at to get food and gas when travelling down I-5. The court told me to stuff my appeal somewhere. So now I simply will never stop in Fife Washington again, or do any business with anyone there. Problem solved.

My ticket for driving 15mph over the limit was only $160 and I could get deferred adjudication for the ticket with no points. In Mansfield you must pay this ticket in full and you can try to fight it afterwards. The kid will have to go to drivers ed to prevent the points from going on his record. The folks are pretty well off so they are going to get a lawyer and see if they can fight it.

I think that is a complete BS ticket. The fact that a community can prevent people from driving down a public road is just insane. You moved near a school, what did you think was going to happen?

Around here they get the cities to install speed bumps and even speed gates. Because when you know the right people you can get just about anything you want.

I know of one where they closed off a public street to prevent cutting threw with a private gate.

IMHO I don't care that they do it, but they should be forced to buy the road from the city, privatize it and maintain it.

Agreed. Around here private roads are quite common.

I would think that would raise the property values, so their taxes should go up.
