A Beckistan?

Glenn Beck, according to a story in the Dallas Observer, is planning on building a Utopia of sorts somewhere in Texas. I would provide a link but I don't know how. (Sorry, but I'm old and some of this newfangled stuff I just can't get the hang of.)

Is this story real? It sounds like something out of 'The Onion'.

This all sounds sort of far-fetched to me, but Texas does have a history of being a home to Utopia's, none of which have survived more than a few years. The last ones to try it were the Hari Krishnas but it never really got off the ground.

Didn't Jim and Tami Bakker try to build something like this?

Glenn Beck and utopia in the same sentence.... and no mention of death or disfigurement...
Wouldn't have thought it possible...

A Texas Billionaire built a dome in Arizona that was to be self sustaining and populated by just a few people. Nothing would come in and nothing would come out.

They found out that it just could not be made to work no matter how much money you threw at it.

But I can see where Beckistan would work if there was enough outside support, and if everyone inside had enough of everything to keep them happy.

Hey, isn't that called Socialism?

No, that really did take place. Apparently he also has some studio place at the old Studios at Las Colinas.

I remember he said he was going to move to Texas at the invite of Gov. Perry.

Southlake used to be someplace you drove through on the way to points west. It turned into a housing area because Hwy 114 was improved and because it was one of the few places where you could buy a home on more than one acre and still be near D/FW.

And then IBM built a 'campus' there and the place really took off.

And now he might be leaving for U-BeckiBeckistan.

It will be interesting to see how this land development deal works out.

Check the web site of the Dallas Observer. They have the current story.

By the way, thanks for the links you posted. I can see why he passed on the church building if he could get space at The Studios.

Beck is using a movie production facility outside of Ft Worth now for at least a year. He is opening another facility in Utah.
He does have some plan for a community that will be self sufficient....not some right wing utopia as you'd like to think.
He's launching a 24/7 global news network to report stories MSM fails to cover.

The place he's at now produced that Oliver Stone movie about JFK.

You can watch him get all teary over his dream community here:

Glenn Beck wants to build an Ayn Rand-inspired utopia - Salon.com

Offhand, I can't think of any intentional community that didn't ultimately fail. Living with a bunch of like-minded drones sounds boring as all get-out to me.

Beck has said that the place will be set up as a 'deprogramming' center where US leaders can come to learn 'the truth'. Beck has also said it will totally self supporting and will need no outside help. I think that's how most Utopias describe themselves.

The Studios also was the site for the interior shots of 'Leap of Faith' and the site of lots and lots of national commercials.

Beck has announced the name of the place. 'The American Dream Lab'.

He has also announced it will involve some new form of energy.

As someone who has spent the last bajillion years in the energy industry I am eager to see what this new form consists of.
