(anti gloat post here) Back in '99 I was having a good year so I took $5,000 and invested in Mercedes benz and a local bank. In two years I cleverly sat on the stock until it was worth about $2,500. At that point I sold it off and have stayed away from stocks since. In fact I put all my savings into real estate since it had always been so stable. Ahhhhhhhhhhhrruuuuphmgpt.

Based on all my savvy investments I am now a thousandaire.

What tech people forget when they cry about this operating system or that, is that there are more none tech people out their who simply don't care. They just want a nice product that works well and has great tech support. Apple provides this.
Exactly! The people I know who are most critical of all things Apple are people who enjoy fooling around with operating systems ad software. Not everybody wants to be a mechanic. Some of us just want to drive the car. I have enjoyed not having to deal with the constant headaches of trying to get things done on a Windows computer. If Apple can streamline and simplifiy home AV systems the same way they did computers, they just might be a $1000 a share before long.

I bought an i Pod 4 years ago. Love it! That made me decide to replace my laptop with a MacBook Pro 2 years ago. Absolutely love it! When it was time to replace my smart phone, I got an i Phone 4S. Abso-effing-lutely LOVE it!

Yeah, I've bought all the Apple stock I can afford. Nobody's twisting your arm to buy it, but at least get your facts straight before you go spouting off crap about a company you clearly know nothing about. Otherwise, you just end up looking foolish.

By the way, Apple is sitting on $136,000,000,000.00 in cash right now. If you subtract that from their current market cap, it gives you a PE of something like 5 or 6. There aren't many bargains on the stock exchange like that right now.

Good for you if you are raking in money left, right and center on AAPL.

You are talking like THE analyst who predicted the stock will go to $1100+. Now he is backing down to $888 using the same argument you put in here on the cash reserve. I am not sure you quoted him or he quoted you. PE of 5 or 6 does not mean a thing. NFLX PE is 500+. It is because it is seen as a growth stock. AAPL is seen as a value stock. All car companies have low PE, look at Ford. Is it a good buy? I doubt it.

Exactly I listened to my tech friends and bought into the Apple nonsense until I got my Iphone....which I like very much because it works. Than I got my mom a Macbook Pro, which I like even more because it works well. Now I'm going to replace my HP desktop with an IMac at some point this year. Maybe Apple TV is next for me? There stuff is nice it works, I'm not a tech guy, fixing tech stuff for me costs money, I have to pay people or mail computers out in Dell's case. That's not for me.

Their stuff works, and its just nice. Plus if I have a problem the store isn't far away and they can fix it.

You can be as wonky as you want to with a Mac. The command line interface is fun if you know unix commands. Nice thing is, you don't have to. They just work.
We have a new MacBook in-house as well as the wife's iPad and a 98 vintage tower that is now retired to file storage and hasn't shut down except for power outages and hard drive upgrades since it was new in the box. Son is a sophomore in college and still using the MacBook he bought his junior year in high school. He runs Windows on it when necessary for GIS mapping applications.
I prefer the 2002 G4 17in. Powerbook I'm typing this on, but I'm going to replace it soon with a MacBook with a retina display and flash hard disk. To me, when you look at all the independent PC repair people there are who are making some sort of a living, and compare that to the nearly non-existent indy Mac techs, the tale is told. They just work.

I actually like OS X Macs. It's the lockdown on the iOS devices that I can't stand. You can use an Android device without being a mechanic and without being locked down.

I appreciate the stability of the Mac OS. I've never had my MacBook crash, never had my phone crash or become corrupted. A lot of people are critical of Apple's tight control over their hardware and software, but that's exactly why it works so well. I think most people tend to prefer that. If Apple's Zen-like approach can live on without Steve Job's presence, ad they can continue to apply it to other consumer electronics products, they'll do very well.

Everytime I hear anything said about Microsoft getting into our cars and home appliances I cringe. When it's time to cook dinner, I don't want to have to defrag my stove or reboot my refrigerator ten times. I don't want to have to worry about my toaster or microwave getting a virus for god's sake! I'd buy Apple kitchen appliances, if they ever decide to get into that . . .

OS X (Macbook) is the ideal model -- you can install any software you like without downloading it from Apple. Censoring what kind of applications can be installed, as on iOS (iPhone, iPad, iPod) is taking it too far, and was the legacy of an ill old man grasping for one last iota of control.

Except they abandoned all their 1st gen iPad buyers. No more OS upgrades, on hardware that's barely 3 years old. That's standing behind your customers?

Of course -- the customers would be better served with new iPads, complete with iCrippleOS 7.0.

When you're Steve Jobs' age, come back and let us know if you feel 'old'.

What won't the first gen iPad not do, except load iOS 6?

The comments seem to indicate that not having iOS 6 isn't turning them into bricks.
