The Positive

Looking back over Mr Obama's presidency, I have to say that he and Mrs Obama seem to have done a good job of raising their kids thus far. I tried to imagine the situation and in every imagining it looks hopeless. How do you raise kids in that insane environment so that they grow into normal adults?

Kudos to Mom and Dad for keeping their girls out of the spotlight as much as they have. Any reporter worth his paycheck would love to spend an hour with those girls to either ruin or laud the president, but that has not happened.

Two loving parents are doing their job despite the evil and mendacious people who seek otherwise.

Whatever we might think of their politics we should give them their due in that regard. Thank you Mr & Mrs Obama.

I'll add to the positive...his children aren't as ugly as Carter's daughter was/is.

Describe how you would feel if someone called your child 'ugly.' You're just a damned bully, plain and simple.

Of course, it's pretty easy to raise your kids well, when you can take them on monthly, no expense spared vacations, on someone else's dollar....

Chelsea Clinton has become more attractive as she matured.

Bzzt - wrong answer. Plenty of people for whom money is no issue are LOUSY parents. Some of the best parents I have ever met were flat broke through some/all of their life.

It's never easy being a good parent.

If she were yours you would think she was good looking.

She's not even mine and I think she is good looking. You seem to have managed to find pictures of her without makeup and disheveled.

Uh Tom, that is pretty much how Amy Carter rolls. There are virtually no "glam" shots of her. During her college years she was a political activist, not a would be journalist or spokesperson. I would guess that few would recall that she was arrested while protesting social issues on campus.

Am I the only parent on here that could give a damm if someone else thinks their child is ugly or not ? Of course my kids are the physically cutest in the world (or at least "Above average" - But if someone tells me they are ugly, Its not worth starting an internet arguement over. Classy ? no, but not worth comment. They are my children, I love them without reserve to the best of my ability.

IMHO there is no way to judge a set of parents by their children. We all want to, but both Einstein and Hitler had parents - I dont hear anyone disparraging either of them now ("If only Hitler had a better mother...")

I always thought that there was a suceessfull "gentlements agreement" between the president's office and the press - the press doesnt go after the children and the white house throws them some other carrot ("secret access" or something...)

(of course, that sometimes doesnt work either...)

Yes, I have written on this forum before that I think that they are good parents. I too offer credit where credit is due.

My Grand Dad said "there's a little bit of good in the worst of us and a little bit of bad in the best of us."
