MSNBC broke into regular programming about an hour after the explosion and is still on it.

They're saying virtually every building in a 5 mile radius was damaged or destroyed. I suspect the death toll will go up.

Fertilizer plant? No. That was only a cover -- it was really an CIA-run industrial-scale "blue meth" lab, designed to produce high-purity crank for the North Korean and Iranian markets, so as to debase the populations of those countries.

This is some serious $hit. No word on how the original fire broke out. Stand by for speculation about terror sabotage. Stranger things have happened.

Or it was a fire of 'natural' causes and the explosion soon followed.

To the OP, its simply in the middle of nowhere, I suspect. None of the major news outfits have the reporting staff they used to so they are spread thin. Mix in the fact that they are probably not allowing anyone close while there is danger of another explosion too.

If you are thinking its an act of terror, certainly a fertilizer plant can blow up easily enough on its own without a bomb, I suspect.

No coverage?

Is your TV and radio unable to tune in any channels on this planet?

I know West a little bit. I used to work with a guy who grew up there and so did his wife. West is a Czhech settlement and a community filled with really good people. When lists of names come out, there will probably be some that are not easy to pronounce at first glance.

I just happened to think, Willies place is not too far from there at Abbott. Maybe he was lighting a joint and set it off.

The winds here are really high and I expect they are dealing with the same thing which probably won't make this any easier.

My thoughts and prayers are with them all.

I wouldn't say that West is in the middle of nowhere. It is right on a heavily traveled Interstate about 20 or 30 miles from Waco and about 60 miles from Dallas or Fort Worth.

You're right, it's hard to imagine this being an act of terror, but anything seems to be possible these days.

Plenty of coverage here, time of day might have delayed it a bit. What a devastating explosion! Thoughts and prayers for those affected.

Lots of natural gas and ammonia gas used in production as well as ammonium nitrate. Add a spark or small fire and...well...this.

I believe the largest non-nuke explosion in US history was in Texas, and involved fertilizer. Texas City Disaster - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Clearly there was a bad fire that had sprung up prior to the actual explosion, caught on tape.....

Yes, there is an interesting Youtube going around showing a guy videoing the original fire. My guess is that he was about a half mile from it and it rocked him and deafened his daughter.

Under normal circumstances, being that far away would seem safe, BUT.......
