I believe they drive them because that's what the great preponderance (the cars they buy/bought) came with - FWD.

Not because they were necessarily making a conscious choice at the time to specifically buy FWD at the time they bought them. Being economical and reliable AND FWD was a Japanese created thing - not an American brand thing - the Americans were led by the Japanese out of the automotive dark ages of the 50s/60s/70s/80s and 90s, (IMO). The Japanese flooded the market with economical/higher mpg FWD cars, and soon after - actually a long time after, the American brands followed suit. From what I gather, because they're mass-produced...it's become a very cheap way to build cars and SUVs.

If FWD was such a great idea, Mercedes-Benz would have put it in all their passenger cars/sedans 60+ years ago.....

Personally, I'll pass on all that noise and stick with Mercedes-Benz RWD machines, and pass on the Asian FWD (IMHO) disposable cr%#*.

I drive a fwd car but I prefer awd or rwd. Its simply practical, cheap and reliable with great mpg ^ pretty much what Larry said. Plus my fwd would run rings around most mbs on the road, it suits most "fun" times as well in that matter.

We are not an accurate cross section of society in many ways....

I prefer FWD for simple, cheap commuting.

I prefer RWD for spirited driving.

I prefer AWD for driving in inclement weather & terrain.
