On small engines the big problem is not ethanol left in the carburetor, it is the engine runs too lean and burns up.

I'm not following you. Does the ethanol cause a buildup in the jet, causing a lean condition?

You need to richen the mixture because alcohol + gas + air has a leaner AFR than just gas + air.
