A client gave me a small Cuban cigar several months back, I was curious, tried it and somehow I slipped into smoking a couple of cigarillos a day on average. Way cheaper than a pack a day - about $1.25 to $2 for a two pack. I smoked cigars about 20 years ago and rolled my own up till about 15 years ago. I don't crave it big time, I usually only do it when I drive.

A handy tip for non-smokers, if you're driving a distance and getting sleepy and stopping to sleep is not a good option, pick up one or two Swishers or White Cat tiny cigars and get a buzz that could keep you alive. It's a different buzz than coffee and it's rather strong.

One week ago last Friday we buried my cousin. He died of stage IV lung cancer at the age of 65. He smoked heavily beginning in his teenage years before his tour in Viet Nam. I've seen him several times over the years and he was at LEAST a two pack a day guy all that time.

Quit cigs 20 years ago. Still like a nice Cohiba now and then or a dip of Copenhagen when out riding or sipping whiskey.

I'll occasionally bum a smoke off someone while drinking, but only do it when I am pretty wasted.

Though it's also a good escape plan when your trying to get at a girl and things aren't going well and you need to bail....

Cohiba is a nice cigar. I like the Cohiba Corona myself. The black is just too heavy for me.

As a former smoker, I think that smoking at an older age wouldn't be so bad. The few years that I smoked, was some of the calmest years of my life.

Back in the 60s, I worked at the State Fair in West Allis, and at the "camp" we were at, there was a "smokers' tent" (called the "sqeek" - don't know why) where they had a ping-pong table set up.

I didn't smoke, but while playing PP, I noticed that my breathing became much easier in all that smoke.

Got outside of the tent, then I was laboring with the "ozone" that was, usually, hanging around. The Milwaukee area used to have periods of "Ozone Alerts" quite often during the summer. I think it had to do with the high humidity from Lake Michigan and the usual suspects.

Other than that, I had to put up with the smoking from the parent and friends. Couldn't see the benefit in burning up money for the FURTHER benefit of the stink and burnt clothing. Then there were the folks that went a bit further and finished off their homes or families.

Not much fun...

Tobacco is amazing. And also another thing you may or may not know, many of the first filtered cigarettes used asbestos filters. Not sure how long that lasted for but wouldn't be surprised if it went into the 60s or even 70s.

I tried growing tobacco when I was in high school but I think my mom sabotaged my pants :/

Edit: I meant "plants" in that last sentence, not "pants"
