Inexpensive Laser Printer

I've finally found myself in need for a laser printer for the home. I need it to be monochrome, be able to automatically print on both sides, and most importantly, be inexpensive to purchase it and the toner.

Any suggestions??

I have about 3000 pages of online textbook that I need to print off, and it would cost about $150 to print this batch of papers, and I'd need to print more after these classes are over.

What should I expect in pricing?

Search your local CL for an HP Laserjet... You can usually find a business model on there for cheap.

Brother HL-2270DW Workgroup Up to 27 ppm Monochrome Wireless Laser Printer with Duplex - Newegg.com

I have this printer without the duplex function (I print odd pages then flip those over and print evens). I've gone through probably about 15-20k of pages printed and its going strong, think its been 2 toners. You can do a little trick to get a lot more toner out of the cartridge too, just taping over a little window it uses to judge how used it is (how tos are all over the internet).

Search Brother HL2270DW on Amazon. About 95 bucks. The high yield toner cartridge is 43 and change. I got about 2K pages out of the half filled cartridge they include with the printer.
Son has one at college and I have one here at home. Wireless, no config issues, it handshakes readily with any and all computers.
There are few things I can truly say I hate, but I hate inkjets.

5 bucks cheaper at Newegg, but there's shipping. If you have Amazon Prime it's free two day shipping so it's a wash. There you go.

With time being important, I couldn't wait for a Monday delivery...I have some things that need printed this weekend.

Staples has the HL-2770DW on sale right now for $109, which I thought was pretty decently priced.

Thanks for the suggestions, fellas!!

Show them the Newegg page in checkout, chances are they'll match it or take a few bucks off.

Also JP and El Chivito, check this out. I did it and it literally doubled toner life.

I love brother small laser printers. I have them installed at many of my clients and they provide great service. The ones with built in wireless are extra nice because you can plop them anywhere and not have to run a wire.

I have the older version of of the 2270DW at home, and really like it. It's on wireless at the moment, and working fine.

Ok, just sent the wife back to Staples with the Newegg ad...She had to go by there anyway, so it's on her way. I hope they meet the price, if not then I'll be happy with what I paid.

I'm currently printing off a 200 page document right now, both sides. This thing is damned fast, and pretty cool to watch.

I wish I would have done this years ago, but I didn't think I would ever be in the need for it like I am now.

I'm part way through the second ream of paper, printing both sides. This is a really nice piece of office equipment. I never would have expected quality like this out of a home printer...but then again, all my printers have either been ink jet or dot matrix, of which I still have, and it still works great.

I'll do the trick to the toner cartridge later tonight. It's still printing right now, and the toner light isn't flashing. There's no way you could have gotten this many pages out of an inkjet with factory cartridges...

I'm rather impressed with the quality of the pictures that's coming off out of it...much better than I thought it would be.

Thanks again, guys!

The 420 cartridge should be good for 1200 or so prints. Keeping in mind the way they measure it is a tiny block of text is a page. The high cap is 2600 or so. HP makes an officejet that matches that...as long as you disable color those inkjets are super cheap to run. The one I reference is the 8600 pro. That brother you bought is great though they force you to change the drum after 10k pages or so

Gonna try that today as my "supplies low" warning is showing on my print screen.
JP, glad we could help. For 10 bucks I'd have bought local too in your shoes. Dot Matrix printers? Wow. If I think about it I can still hear the locust like teeth grating sound of my old Apple ImageWriter. GAH!

LOL That old Epson dot matrix is hooked up to an old computer I have stashed away in the closet. It won't connect to any of my newer computers. The noise they make is crazy...drives me up the wall.

My daughter had the whole system out a few months ago to make a few banners. I've had this box of paper since 2008, and my mom had the same exact box since the early 1990's...we only use it for the kids. I don't even know if I can get a new ink ribbon for it.

Interestingly enough I still see dot matrix printers used all the time in businesses like NAPA and tire stores for printing customer invoices and receipts. Somebody must make ribbons for them.
