It's too danged hot!!

I'm very thankful that the wife, daughter, and her BF spent a few weeks going through the boxes of crap we stored in the basement, sorting through to find what they were keeping and what was being thrown out. They cleared the cobwebs from the joists and walls, swept the floor, the vacuumed it and ran a damp mop on it to clear the dust.

Last night, when it was still too hot for the window AC unit to cool the living room, we set up some chairs in the basement, turned on the radio, grabbed some books and my laptop, and enjoyed the 15 degree difference.

It's supposed to be like this all week...

What are you calling hot? We've had a break from the heat for a few days and haven't seen nineties since Saturday. It's been quite pleasant. Saturday before last it was close to 100 and high humidity. I was working on the SLK in my non air conditioned shop and about died.

I started putting it back together yesterday afternoon and it was only in the mid eighties. Quite a pleasant change and made for a pleasurable evening in the shop. I'm hoping to finish tonight before the heat comes back later in the week.

We've already seen double digits, so it's nice to see a break from it, even if only for a few days.

We're all in the low '90s for the next four days.

Humidity is not oppressive until the evening when the temp drops into the low '80s and the humidity climbs dramatically.

I did that before...no A/C, no doors or windows to provide crossbreeze, and one small fan. I'd go in, strip my shirt, wearing shorts, put my apron on and use a c-clamp on the air gun to keep it blowing on me. To handle the chaffing from the heat, I took two baby socks, filled them with alum, then put one in each pocket.

None of it was enough...they ended up carting me off to the hospital in an ambulance with air on full blast, trying to cool me down. It was 130 degrees in the shop, with a black flat top roof. I did it for a week before the weather finally broke...

Since then, I don't handle heat well at all...I moved the window AC out of my daughter's bedroom and put it in another window in the living room this morning. I now have two 5000 BTU units blowing, and it's still warm. I think I'm going to go to the beer store, not for the beer, but because they have a very large cooler that you can walk into...

Blech!

It's brutal in our warehouse. We've been having the guys do their shopwork in the mornings and spend the afternoons in the A/C'd office areas and conference room doing painting and cleaning. If I can get them to keep the loading dock doors closed, which open up to the paved parking area, it's not as awful. We've made a few Rita's Italian Ice runs the past couple weeks, too.

While I don't personally care for the heat and humidity, my consolation is that it's good for our golf course business. Lots of heat and drought stress and disease pressure on the turf.

Holy crap! Isn't that exceptionally humid for your neck of the woods?

.
90's with 90% humidity. It's supposed to hit mid 90's by Friday. Not much in the way of air movement outside...

Fortunately, this Satan's-Arsecrack weather is supposed to break by the end of the week. It's not been too bad this summer so far, and if this crap only lasts a few days, I'm not complaining.

(Plus I'll be blissfully out of the country next month!)

Think of the guys working in a steel mill in these conditions.....did it for 12 years back in the day.

Heard Brewers are running full capacity.

The limitations of a 5K unit become readily apparent the moment the ambient climbs above 85F.

They are grossly inefficient, noisy as hell, and occupy the bottom of the market.

See if you can find a used Panasonic in either 7800 or 10K. I found one in NYC for $75 and it's now replaced the 15 year old Fedders which finally died (compressor wouldn't engage).

They are exceptionally quiet and many times you can operate them on "LO"...........nearly silent.

Once you use a Panasonic A/C, you will never go back. Sadly, they don't make a/c's anymore.

^^^

Don't they still make mini-splits at least? (Or that was one of the choices when I was looking at splits a year ago.)

The "dry heat" stereotype of AZ always cracks me up. When our monsoonal moisture seasons kicks into gear mid July-September, humidity well over 50% is not unusual at all. Yesterday was more sun that clouds, but the humidity climbed in the afternoon anyhow. This a.m. it's cloudy so there won't be as much heating, maybe 95 or so. We have a 60% chance of thunderstorms after 11 a.m. The image is from the nearest NOAA reporting station at the Sedona airport, which is located on a mesa nearly a thousand feet in elevation higher and about 20 miles away from me as the crow flies. My current readings here are 11 degrees hotter and 10 percent higher humidity.
