What's Wrong with Mercedes-Benz?

There is an interesting thread titled "What's Wrong with Mercedes-Benz?" in the Edmonds' Townhall.

Read it at

I liked what one guys had to say. He was a long tiem MB owner (three of them including an SL) but was fed up with the "problems" (MBUSA won't call them problems) in his E-calss (head gaskets, radiator, etc.) and now he is a happy converted Lexus owner.

These guys are unhappy with MB's reliability and are now buying Lexus????

Have fun..... They'll learn their lesson soon enough. I have a friend who bought a Lexus about four years ago. 2 years ago he went on and on about how great and reliable his Lexus was. I believed him.

2 years after that and about $3K in repairs (not maintenance) he is no longer so fond of his Lexus and is looking to sell. The car has <90K miles on it.

Nothing against Lexus because lets face it... New MB's aren't what they used to be, but going Lexus is not an answer.

To each his own....I choose Mercedes-Benz.

One quick story. I have a good friend who owns two MB's and a Lexus (1993 SC400, purchased new). The front seats had to be re-dyed three years ago - the leather is so thin. Cheapo plastic everywhere!

My opinion is that Lexus makes a good car. But, a car that lasts 25 years? Nope.

My friend also commented that he felt Lexus had no "soul".....

What's wrong with Mercedes-Benz?

They only care about making money for the share holder not making cars that withstand the test of time as they get older!

They are building too many cars now!!!

Somewhere along the lines the wrong kind of people were hired by the company, people who don't understand what makes a Mercedes-Benz.

I've noticed Audi cars and the new Volkswagen Pheaton has the attention to detail, workmanship and build quality that Mercedes-Benz no longer has except for the Galendenwagen.

I believe the times have changed at the company for the worse.

Pleasing Deutschebank and Kirk Kerkorian is what they need to do. Everything else is secondary. The way smaller car companies are being gobbled up by the big guys, this is the only way DC is going to survive.

Sometimes I wonder if we, as shareholders, are responsible for all these layoffs and bankruptcies. Few weeks ago my wife's company came out with a revised forecast. Instead of little over $2 a share in earnings they revised it down to $1.83 or so. The stock immediately lost 10%. It has since recovered to the level it was before the revision. Some E-companies just hint that they aren't going to lose money this year and all of a sudden their stock rockets. I tellya, this doesn't make any sense. Where's the common sense these days?
