I recently bought a couple solar power kits from HF at their sidewalk sale, my first. Got the manager to apply the 20% off coupon to the sale price. Each 45W kit was about $116 with taxes and all, I think. Wanted more but didn't get back to the sale. I am going to charge batteries as long as it requires no strenuous work. May eventually power a well pump after I get more panels.

There's "direct buried" and there's conduit.

If the critters (4-legged, not the 2-legged) are a problem in your area, getting some PVC (3" or so) and trenching that in (with a pull-line) would be the way to go...and the GFI connections on both ends.

Then, if you'd like to upgrade the "man-nest" after the 2-legged critters are out of the house, then you pull more amperage to power the newer, improved tree-fort for dad.

Otherwise, 15-Amp is enough to keep a heated blanket functioning should you and missus have a "disagreement" that'd require a little distancing...

I am not planning on more than a 15 amp breaker as it will just be a light or two, an outlet and possibly setting up a deer surveillance system.

Any input on the size of wire I need or anything else? I am planning on burying the wire from the outdoor shed (where the breaker box is) to the treehouse.
I'd go #12, and Certainly use UF (underground rated direct burial wire) should be around $280 for 500' I would use a GFI BREAKER, not a gfi outlet. as the wire could get damaged in the middle in the future, and a breaker would be more sensitive to this... also, be sure you bury the cable at least 12" down, preferably 18-24" deep.
