All that fake chrome around the vents and huge wood veneers make the S class interior look incredibly outdated. Is thats supposed to appeal to the gold chains and receding hair line crowd? Maybe its for the Chinese market, they're into tacky **** like that. Also the screen is the wrong shape and size. Why no touch screen?

This is how it should be done.

I'm guessing in 2 or 3 years that S class interior is going to look even more stone age and they'll have to do a major mid life overhaul.

When I test drove the Tesla Model S, I found the iPad sized display, mounted low in the center stack, quite a bit more distracting in terms of shifting line of sight from the road, and for the price, the big open area under the display and between the seats seemed to scream "budget box."

What's wrong with wood trim?

I dont see anything wrong with the screen layout. If Im going to be looking at some information I shouldn't be looking down too far.

To each his own I guess. The new S class interior reminds me of a 90s Buick. Admittedly I didn't get to drive it, only sat in it. I think this design won't hold up the test of time.


As for those other interiors, those MB and all those other manufacturers aren't pushing free software updates with new capabilities every couple of months like Tesla is doing. These designs won't age well. Anybody ever play with a W220 "Command" system lately? It makes a SNES or Sega Genesis look modern.

I don't like the massive screens on the new S class dash, looks cheap to me.

The Audi S8 I was in yesterday blew it out of the water, felt more in line with a Bentley.




IMHO the two best uber sedans in the world now are the Audi S8 and the Tesla Model S.

Most everyone that I talk to hates the tacked on screen design, whether it's MB or one of the others. It isn't pretty to the eye at all, completely disrupts the overall flow of the dash.

Why touchscreen in a car? Something with no tactile feedback requires you to take your eyes off the road. I've had touchscreen displays in my cars before and they are really annoying until you get the precise coordinates down on the screen. The knob type displays are pretty good nowadays, only challenge can be typing in an address.
