They have that covered, too. I don't recall the reasons given, but it is something like oil just is there much like iron ore is just found in the ground.

Your statement could be turned the other way quite easily.

I'm sure it could, so long as the person person turning it the other way is not required to provide any facts to support his or her position.

Some Conservatives have constantly stated that their opposition to abortion is due to the 'fact' that taxpayer money is used for this procedure. This, in their viewpoint, settles the argument in their favor.

And yet when anyone speaks out against using taxpayer dollars to teach religion in school Conservative quickly point out that anyone opposed to this must feel threatened by it. Again, to them this settles the argument.

Why?

Teaching religion in public schools is forbidden in Oklahoma due to a clause in the Oklahoma Constitution that prevents any tax dollars, in any form, from being used in any way to promote any religion.

Prayers are offered at the beginning of public events, but no Clergyperson is allowed to be compensated even one thin dime for doing so.

This has not stopped various groups from trying to find a way around the Constitution in order to allow their views to be taught in public schools, but so far short of changing the Oklahoma Constitution no legal way has been found.

A few years ago there was a craze here to place copies of the Ten Commandments on courthouse lawns. The amounts of money spent to see this through were staggering and, in the end, fruitless. Some groups even had the stones created and dropped them off in the middle of the night and dared the County to remove them. So they did and the result of this was nothing.

Our current Gov. Fallin has been asked to comment on this, but as someone who must take an oath to uphold the Oklahoma Constitution she has simply dodged the question.

I won't apologize for Texas. This state has a lot to offer. As for the topic, it's up to the parents to teach their children - regardless what the school teaches. If the school teaches creationism, you can teach your kids the other side of the story and then let them make up their minds. I have kids - it's what I do.

I disagree. The schools job is to teach science (among other things) not religion. If a parent wants to teach religion that is their prerogative. To argue that it does not matter what a school teaches degrades education and science.

Next thing you know, they'll be trying to get rid of Math because teaching 3+1=4 undermines the doctrine of the Trinity.

I'd explain the "Trinity" concept with a can of "3-in-1" lubricating oil in my hand.

If everybody would just give up and come to Jesus we wouldn't have all this unpleasant arguing.
