finally picked a "new" truck

After all the talk about diesels, I decided to just go with a gasser. All the diesels I looked at in my (current) price range, had a ba-jillion miles on 'em. Found a nice clean '93 F-250 with the 460, and "only" 117k miles. Gas mileage is gonna suck, but it's not gonna be a daily driver. Plan on either ripping off the bed, and installing a flatbed, or getting a bed-top deck for my snowmobiles and RZR. I hate towing a trailer all the time.

"Clean" is more important that almost anything at that age. When I was looking for my last diesel pickup, about 5 years ago, I couldn't believe how many had holes in the padded dash where someone screwed a speaker.--or holes in the seat where someone sat down with a screwdriver or something in their pocket.--or trucks that wouldn't even start--or with broken ignition locks and used a screwdriver as a key. Horribly abused trucks.

Nice, clean looking ride, rick!

I had a 4x4 90' F-350 crew cab w/460 and I could get 13 on the highway @70 mph. You don't want to know around town and in stop & go traffic. I was hauling the daily newspapers to the paper carriers' houses at the time and Sunday's paper would fill the bed completely and about 2' over the top of the cab (I had sideboards and a headache rack) and the back seat completely.

With limited usage the fuel mileage is less of an issue. I wouldn't be driving my Suburban if I was doing 15,000+ miles/year. At only 6Kish/yr. it's not worth buying another vehicle to drive around when I don't need it.

That thing will make a fine sled hauler!

They're great trucks, the only constant failure I have had with Fords were the door ajar switches-which can be easily cleaned & lubed with dielectric grease on a '93

If you get itching for MPGs the front air dam on newer F350s doesn't look bad at all and shouldn't hurt your ground clearance. Other than that good luck with a 460

Nice man. Now maybe you can haul those folded horns around.

Looks good!

I really dig those bodystyle of Fords. Something about them that really makes them stand out from every other truck on the road.

I personally wouldn't mind a 250 or 350 with a Powerstroke, but like others have said before, clean one are few and far between.

This are good trucks. My dad has a '95 f150 with the 300 straight six and over 200k miles. The only things that have really sucked are some bushings that require drilling out a rivet and fuel pumps.

Nice looking truck - out of curiousity what kind of gas mileage are you expecting from this?

Those are good trucks, very well built. Last good truck that Ford made IMHO.

That body style is huge, especially the F350 crew cab. I'd love one with a powerstroke

Don't ignore the IDI diesels, either. The last version was the same displacement as the Power Stroke, and turbo charged. The IDI engines are fully mechanical, so no computer--to foul up--or to allow quick and easy tuning.

the biggest problem I had with the body style was the crappy bushing used to hold the clutch master pushrod to the pedal and the total lack of storage space behind the seat in a single cab. Had the bushing wear out and subsequently damage the pivot itself on 3 different manual tranny trucks, two friends and one of my own, one diesel and two gas. Dealing with that problem is hours of strugging to remove the whole pedal cluster and replacing the pivot rod with something else. Dealer just tries to snap on a new plastic bushing over a worn out pivot, broke off in 2 days.
As an automatic, non issue.

However, having said that, they are awesome trucks. I had a 95 with a 5.0 mustang motor and 5-speed, you could smoke the tires in 3 different gears if you wanted to. Sounded incredible

Thanks guys! So far, I love the truck, but haven't actually hauled anything yet. We're still waiting for some decent snow here in northern Utah, so the snowmobiles are just resting on the trailer.
First tankful of combined driving gave ma a solid 10mpg. Was hoping for a LITTLE better, but oh well! But yeah, an uncle says he had the exact truck and got 12 - 14 hiway with it. Everyone tells me to put a decent exhaust system on it, to let that big motor breath a bit better. Been years since I had dualies on a vehicle!
