Life is not fair, it's hard. It's never been 'fair'. Only a fool expects an ideal world that exists in their mind to somehow exist in reality. Adapt or die.

It's always easiest to appear to be living within societal norms and 'fly below the radar'.

Old Japanese Proverb:
出る杭は打たれる。 Deru kui wa utareru. Literally: The stake that sticks up gets hammered down. Meaning: If you stand out, you will be subject to criticism.

It's a difficult dilemma. No wants a gang of lowlifes doing a takeover burglary and their house and brutalizing the household while they're at it. That's why communities hire cops. Some police work does appear to fly in the face of the constitution to some extent.

Cops hate showing up after the fact. Which is the way it happens most of the time. And then people whine about how they're all hanging at the donut shop so no wonder. Fact is, being at the scene of a crime as it's unfolding is a rare occurrence, for cops or civilians, apart from the victims anyway.

The profiling thing is not good, it's usually not warranted but there are times when it points to abnormalities that would be best nipped in the bud. I suspect you'll have plenty of opportunities to rail against this sort of thing because cops are not going to stop trying to pre-empt crime.

I know a LE department that claims it is not their job to prevent crimes but to enforce laws.
