In your world, there is no way police could spot a crime in progress and take steps to thwart it because they're supposed to wait until after it's happened. If the officer had somehow kept the youth covered until the weapon was given up, this could have been a far better outcome that what was on the table before officer German happened upon the scene. What do you think they were doing on the street, armed, at 4 am? Hard to imagine that the familes won't get the bodies of the deceased soon for burial. If there are multiple wounds on each death youth, presumably from a hail of police bullets, I think the story will fall apart soon enough.

Please. The 4th Amendment is brought up because officer German's "subject stop" falls under suspicion of being in the 'unreasonable searches and seizures' category spoken of therein.
We'll see what comes out.

Lack of any hard evidence has prevented me from commenting on this thread.

(My apologies to everybody for being a resident curmudgeon)
A great way to avoid problem with the poh-lees is to stay within local societal norms. |

completely.
^ reads like 'societal norms' defined by the 'poh-lees' trumps the constitution. You sir have invalidated yourself. My advise is drink heavily. Did you even think just a little bit before typing that? Cat on the keyboard? Account hi-jacked?

It's not 'either/or'. Life is full of compromises. If you want to live on the edge or beyond societal norms then expect scrutiny. This is a fact of life.
Is it fair? No. Is it ideal? No. Is it real? Yes. There are circumstances and occaisions when challenging the norms is a good thing. But that sure as hell doesn't mean that it will be safe, comfortable or easy. Take civil rights, for example (of which this is a subset). It is not fair, right or just that black people were oppressed due to pigmentation. Yet changing the local norm cost lives. Was it worth it? I woul say that the survivors would say it is. The dead have no opinion. |
