Back when the Navy shot down an Iranian airliner headed for the haj there was a lot of talk about military aircraft telemetry.
As I recall, US military pilots must intentionally turn-on telemetry so that they fly dark by default. But then, that came from 'anonymous sources' so there's no telling wtf the truth is. Whatever the truth might be I'll bet it is a closely guarded military secret. Wouldn't want badguys monitoring friendly telemetry. |

In the modern electronic battlefield I'm sure they want to know where all their assets are all of the time. That's part of the reason the fifth gen fighters are so much more deadly. They are able to do all sorts of cool electronic things.
