Some people need to absentee vote, that is almost always 'early'.

Absentee voting is not early voting. There have been provisions got absentee voting for a long time
I might favor extending the period for voting IF we had increased security to insure only properly registered and legally eligible citizens voted. Otherwise it's an invitation for mischief

When I first started voting I voted a my local precinct. The total number of voters might have been as low as hundreds. Enough of these spread all over town made it easy to get all the votes in and counted.

The right to vote used to be respected. (For those that had it anyway) and now people are expendable widgets.

Perhaps, at that time, the voters earned the respect of the politicians.
