More than one dead I thought.

The news had to travel half way around the globe before it got to me :)

However, this incident happened on Wednesday..I am surprised no one on this site has posted about this before now.

It is fresh news. Perp is dead. I didn't pay much attention. These things ... ya know? Want me to find you some links?

Local news is very restricted...Internet is monitored closely by the Government..throw back from the Communist days I suppose.

I THINK that the time of your post that I see is EST. The event occurred at 4:58PM CST. Not too much of a lag between occurrence and your post.

Except for Army Aviation facilities, there is no such thing as an Army "base." There are, however, such things as Army "posts." Fort Hood is an Army "POST". There used to be and I expect still is, an Army Aviation facility nearby named "Killeen BASE."

Sounds petty I know, but if you had been harrassed by a mean and nasty Army drill sergeant for calling it a base, and made to knock out fifty push ups as punishment, you would remember it too.

"You numb nuts! You're not in the Navy! This is a POST! Get down and give me FIFTY!"

Is Ft. Hood a gun free zone?

Yep, you know, "a kinder and gentler military."

No clue if it is supposed to be gun free, but reports this morning are that the 45 the shooter used (on himself at least) was not military issued, and that he did not have the necessary permit to have it on the post.

1. All military sites are basically gun free, except for security details.
2. The shooters weapon was obtained legally, off post
3. The US military, with few exceptions, no longer issues or uses the .45 caliber round.
4. There may be indication that the shooter was prescribed psychotropic drugs to treat mental illness.
