The ones we have ran off and naturalized before I was born from a bunch my grandmother brought in. They nest in the mesquite thicket that borders the creek, but show up regularly to patrol the garden. I barely see them in the winter, but they're here now. Between the bobcats and our resident lion their numbers seem to stay pretty level. I never see more than a dozen or so. I take a fat one once or twice a summer to roast. All dark meat and quite tasty. Pheasant-ish.

Yep. Mrs B and I are getting some meets to raise for exactly the reasons noted plus they love vegetable garden pests and don't mess with the veggies.

Quite by chance, I recently heard that at a local big box store the employees are able to buy 22 in bulk when it shows up. Only reason I found this out is I happen to have a colleague whose relative is an employee. Apparently this employee is - as is allowed by the store - able to score 22 in bulk when it comes in.

Don't know the truth or extent of this but I'm going to try and see if it really is so by asking them to hold a brick, or two, or three, of ten

for me...
