The only times I shoot without protection is the occasional guinea/chicken alert and I grab a gun and get a shot at a predator.

It's subsonic and the muzzle blast ain't that bad. I'd def wear hearing protection. My hearing went the way of El's.

1) Get to know one of the old geezers and work a deal. 2) Ask for a rain check.

The hoarders and resellers will gladly sell for 2x-3x the price. Also Walmart nor anybody for that matter does rain checks on ammunition

I haven't shot .22LR in 30 years but I just priced out bricks on CTD. 50 rounds for $15? That's $.30 a round. I just loaded up on 7.62X54R for $.20 a round and I buy 5.56 NATO in bulk for $.40 a round.
If I'm going to pay $.30 each time I pull the trigger in a .22, I'd rather just pay another dime and shoot my AR. I didn't realize .22 had gotten to that price level.

Guinea Fowl are like watchdogs and have incremental levels of alert calls. I have developed a feel for their calls. Immature guineas just like to hear themselves squawk and confuse issues. When the roosters respond along with the guineas and then the hens join in it is usually the real thing. Not always. Sometimes an airplane or helicopter will set them off.

Soaring birds are different than birds that have to flap continuously to stay aloft. Some birds just flit from tree to tree. Guineas and chickens pay close attention to such things.

Interesting. They are native to where I'm from. I never realized they were bred here as well till quite recently. Had no idea about their watch keeping ability.

I was going to buy two spam cans of 54R but I said I'll wait a week. And then the ban on the other Russian stuff happened and the hoarders did the usual thing and bought it all up.

Never buy anything from CTD. They are part of the problem in regards to ammo prices.

Noisyass birds. We have a wild flock that's been here forever. They naturalize well anyplace there's some cover for them to nest. They're tasty too.

I guess if you grow-up on the African savanna you become vigilant, loud, and quick.

Maybe it's because I really only buy 5.56 and 7.62, but that doesn't match my experience. My local WM sells the 1000 round box of 5.56 (when they have it) for $499. CTD sells it for $399 and charges $30 shipping.

Same for spam cans of 7.62x54R - I've never seen them for sale anywhere but I can buy them from CTD for $90 shipping all day long.

If there's a better way/place to buy ammo then please share...

Local gun shops, Dunham's Sports, Cabella's...hell, even Dick's usually has a decent supply at better prices than CTD. CTD was the first to jack up the cost of ammo when the panic buys started up. I've been in this game for many years, and would never give a penny to CTD.

I can pick up 440 round spam cans of 7.62X54R at Dunaham's for $99 all day, every day.
