Not sure I see any prohibition against torture in the State or Federal Consitutions either. It just says punishments cannot be cruel or unusual. Is torture by definition "cruel?" Torture is probably the same as corporal punishment in some regards since torture involves some elements of physical punishment. I am still looking for something which says torture or corporal punishment are per se prohibited in the consitution.
My take is that there are alternate methods with proven efficacy, and yet the bozos in charge opted for an untested (and apparently not terribly effective) method.
Certainly the DB is dead, but apparently that outcome was not so certain there for a little while.
These things should be carried out quickly and efficiently and in a manner which does not lower the state to the level of those they are executing.

Cruel and unusual.... it's in there, and open for debate. I get the impression that your interpretation will be a minority position.

Did you say the same thing when the first "Other than guillotine" method had a hiccup? Yes, it was not effective from that standpoint. If you don't test, you can never progress with a new method. In the test, sometimes it won't work as well as we thought, much like governmental policies.

The difference between the state and him is that he intentionally caused his victims harm. Unless someone steps forward and shows data that this method was in animal trials producing the same results, we didn't intentionally get it done this way. I doubt anyone purposely switched meds to see him twitch. A lot of stuff works well on paper, in the tests but sucks in he field. Doesn't make them evil or at his level, FWIW that it botched up.

Why would we want to televise such a thing?
Isn't there too much crap on the boob tube already?

I think executions should be carried out with the absolute minimum pomp and circumstance. These db's are not celebrity, they are dirtbags being put to death.
Do it quickly, humanely and without a TV crew.

Why do I get the impression that if we went back to hanging, that the rope would have to be some special blend, at a cost of about $1000 per foot, and would not be reusable......

Seems like there are plenty of other methods that work just fine....
Kind of appears to me that someone 'went out of their way' and it returned less than the desired results.

Wonder what kind of kickback there is on 'death drug cocktails'.....

Fascinating, the amount of "blood lust" there is among those that seemingly claim the moral and Christian high ground. Fascinating, how that is.

I wasn't posting on the interwebs when last the guillotine was used.
Guess I don't see the point of 'testing to find a new method'....

So, you're willing to give the state a pass....
Why exactly did they switch from the lethal injections which used to work?

And it is book-ended by their abhorrence of violence carried out by adherents of that 'other' religion....

At a certain level, it's not so much religion as the nature of man.

(OK, I'd feel sorry for the engine driver.)

Or it might be one small step towards him getting a stroke five years from now. Either way, you're working towards a good outcome.
