If you swap in a 606 NA or 606 turbo with an OM603 IP and some sort of non-computerized tranny, wouldn't you just pull out the right bulbs from the instrument cluster and carry on? I ask because I would think that the interior electronics would be hard to transfer over between two cars... e.g., even swapping later 126 memory seat switches into an earlier 126 is a big pain.
Swapping things depends on your comfort level. For me switching drivetrains is a pain and switching things electrical is very, very easy.

Plus in an interior swap you will find the door panels will accept almost anything Mercedes could throw at them. The degree of complication would be equal the original level of the car; going up is harder, but going down is really rather easy.

Again, it just all depends on what your strengths are.

No you would have to re engineer the entire car. The transmission and all the traction aides, along with probably the suspension talk to each other. If the engine doesn't talk nothing will work.

You have to think of modern cars as complete systems, of which the motor is only a small part.

They are cheap now just buy a good one.

You got that right. If it were not for the ABC suspension, I would still own my bi-turbo 600. I just couldn't go for more than a few months without throwing thousands on the suspension.

Other than the suspension, the issues were not that bad. The bi-turbo engine is amazing. I keep looking at buying an SL65 but the ABC flashbacks keep me at bay.

Can't you just swap out the ABC for regular springs and shocks?

There are kits that defeat the computer system.
