I635 and I35 are a mess and after 8 PM, it can become unbearable because all lanes will suddenly be shut down for one derange reason or another by the crew that's building the project. I appreciate the magnitude of this project which is a marvel.

However, it appears that no new roads are being built in Texas unless they are toll roads.

I'm not sure how I feel about this given that we get r**ed on our property taxes and while I appreciate the convenience once the variable rate toll road comes online, I'm wondering if i could get a credit for all the time I spent sitting 635 while it was getting built.

Once again, you don't get it. But your knee jerk 'I'm being harassed' reflex is working well. You complained about the separate thread experiment not keeping politics out of OD while you yourself recently injected politics into OD.

Ya' mind pointing out where I said I was being harassed? Your imagination is getting the best of you. You better look up that lawyer.

Well....many many problems, few answers. As I stated previously on another thread, German MagLev high speed rail is a real option to traffic gridlock. California is currently in the process of building a high speed rail line and it looks like it will be a great thing.

Think about it, instead of staring at the bumper in front of you, you are greeted by a "flight" attendant who seats you and then asks if there is anything she can get you. She brings you a Starbucks and today's Wall Street Journal newspaper. You settle into your first class comfy seat for an uneventful 300 MPH trip from Dallas to Houston. As you look out the window, you notice the cars and trucks locked in traffic gridlock.....you smile knowing you will arrive in Houston rested and ready to go........life is good........

AFAIK, the Germans don't actually use Maglev, just high-speed steel-on-steel rail systems. They're slightly slower than France or Japan as well, but their network is more "connected" (i.e. multiple routes between cities) as a price of that, and also, train frequencies are good compared to other European countries.

Actually, Dallas to Houston is only about 240 miles. You don't even need true high-speed rail to be competitive. A medium-speed electric train averaging 100 to 120 mph would beat the socks off of car travel.

You'd need a decent network of commuter trains at both ends and/or car rentals that can be hourly as well as daily or weekly.

Correct. They just invented it but the ecofreaks won't let them use it. Only the Chinese have a working system that they copied from the Germans. Maglev would be an ideal system for a real high speed train system for the US. But there's no chance of that unfortunately.

Houston is so far widespread its borderline crazy and the fact that only 40% of it is serviced by buses - those too with routes so hopeless that it would be a nightmare for commuting to work (not everyone works in downtown)

speaking of crazy driving - I drive everyday from Richmond to Woodlands - leave at 6:00 AM and get there at 6:55 on entry gate check in for work.

If I take that same route at 7:00 AM I would get there by 9:30 AM - all thanks to a stupid road network that is getting plugged up by the influx of people from all over the USA.

I have had my timings modified that I can get to work at 7:00 and leave at 4:00 to beat the nutso traffic - which is a collection of "stupid, testing, dozing off, fighting" drivers.

This city seriously needs a proper heavy transport system to land into somewhere near downtown and then small route buses to take you to your destination. (used to do that in London when I lived there)

You didn't say it specifically in this case or even use that word before but the whining has been there, and in that vein numerous times.

My humble suggestion to those handsome and masculine moderators is to simply delete posts that cross the proverbial line. It's one of the nicer features of vBulletin and also widely used on Facebook forums.

Well, in that case it should be easy for you to quote it then. Put up or shut up.

Yes, translated, that means you want all posts that you disagree with deleted. Just proves the tolerance of the liberals.

I would love to devote several hours a day to the task of helping you work through the error of your ways but I think I'm going to devote my time to something I have a chance of succeeding at, such as bringing peace to the world in our time or curing cancer.

About 20 miles of winding and hilly, lightly traveled road in my SLK, and then a couple of miles on a four lane loop. Driving to work is sport as opposed to frustration.

Before moving out here I was driving from lake arlington to addison airport everyday and it was murder. Now, the national guard couldnt get me to move back to the metromess.
If anyone does a little research they can find the same thing you did. I once, a few years ago, got so fed up with Central I decided to take Greenville Ave. north out of Dallas. I figured if it worked for Bonnie and Clyde it would work for me.

And I found that State Hwy. 5 is a hidden gem. Twisty, pretty and fun to drive.

But some people would rather curse the darkness than light a candle, so let them drive Central and US 75. That will leave the fun roads for those that know how to enjoy them.

As a kid we took highway five a good bit when we went to Blue, Oklahoma to see my aunt and uncle. The Malt Shop in Anna was a big treat back then and still exists. Every Saturday is cruise night there.

With the construction on 75, when my wife and I go to grand prairie to care for my Mom, we come back on the sam rayburn and instead of getting on 75, we simply go straight into Mckinney and take five to melissa to get on 121 at the Racetrac. When the construction is finished, if in my lifetime, we will take 75 again. With good weather i often fly to grand prairie. Doesn't save much time, but it sure cuts out the metromess traffic aggravation. There are no brakelights in the sky.

If you were to research with intellectual honesty you could actually find your OWN errors, but that is way too much to ask from a lib.
