No just commenting on that you state that the oil was changed yearly, but all of the other fluids were changed at the prescribed interval. Perty odd to find that weird bird. Good luck with it none the less, hope it turns out to be a good investment, or hobby/tool.

iwrock is an honored and extremely educated intelligent and extremely successful member of this forum and has been so for a long long time.

He's been a personal friend to me too for many years and as a TRUE auto enthusiast, has a far more open mind about other great cars than simply blind loyalty to just the Mercedes-Benz marque which sadly, has slipped pretty far from what it once was - "The best or nothing" in the last 20-30 years.


We should ALL be so lucky to have the wherewithal time money curiosity and intelligence to indulge our automotive tastes the way he does. ESPECIALLY at such a youthful age.

Nice truck, to bad its RWD its going to be painful in the winter. I'd find some good tire chains and put 500 pounds of sand bags in the back, also carry a shovel, and put some meaty tires on the back.

I'm so done with none 4x4 trucks, worthless unless you live where it doesn't snow.

It is a concern but I got by with my 135 just fine this winter with a set of tires. I imagine some emergency chains, kitty litter and being conscious of the forecast will be enough. Hopefully this winter won't be as bad as last either

I've been fine driving in snow with a little ranger, open rear, blah blah blah. If you're careful it's no problem to get around in 2wd. The exploder is plenty heavy to be ok, although the sand doesn't hurt.

Ugh don't remind me . The previous owner of the G smoked and never cleaned it a single time after 5 or 6 years of ownership. It took me days of scrubbing to get all the filth out.

Thankfully I didn't have any carpet to deal with.

When I opened it up this weekend it was noticeably better, even after sitting for a week with the doors and windows shut. Small step but encouraging. I don't expect it to ever smell good (it is made of plastic) but something I can cover up without being overbearing

My great-grandfather used to smoke 6-8 cigars a day, including time behind the wheel. After he passed away (at 93) in '85, my uncle bought his last car. A '73 Cadillac Sedan DeVille bought new and off the road in '82. IIRC it had 40K miles on it. (It was brown, probably the only reason I didn't lust after it as a then-15yo kid ).

It looked like it had yellow tinted windows. It took about a year for the smell to mostly go away with the less-than-extensive cleaning my uncle gave it and the extreme amount of residue that covered the interior.

There is hope for you and it shouldn't take anywhere near as long!

Did I understand you correctly in that the timing chain for one cylinder bank is at the front of the engine, and the timing chain for the other bank is at the rear of the engine?

Correct. Don't ask me WTF they were thinking! Drivers side bank is the front, running off the crank, passenger side is the back, using a jack shaft. I think the back chain and tensioner/guides are okay but if the front tensioner disintegrated I imagine the rear isn't far behind. I don't want to do another timing chain. I am debating doing the rear main seal as well, to be safe.
