Pat's Still Cheating
This is a shame. Team with that much talent and more than once caught cheating.

What were the temperatures of the footballs when inflation was verified pre-game? What were the temperatures of the footballs when evaluated to determine post-game pressure?

The 12.5 to 13.5 psi window probably covers temp change.

I remember watching a short piece about the job of conditioning the new NFL footballs during the week. I forget what team it was, but basically they get water soaked, scuffed and "conditioned" and then put into practice so that the qb can pick the ones he likes for the coming week. No ball goes into the game from the bench that hasn't been previously touched and approved by the qb. Similar prep in MLB, the balls that are provided to the ump by the home team get "treated."

Anybody check Indy balls?
No pun intended, but it appeared during the game; they did not have any.

If you ain't cheatin', you ain't tryin'!
As a Pats fan, it is hard to keep defending. Instead of enjoying the arsewhooping of the Colts and looking forward to the Super Bowl, it's Deflategate, Deflategate, Deflategate. At this point for me, it's just a matter of waiting for the full report to come out and see what's in it. Belichick has a history of pushing the limits of the letter of the rule and seeing just how far he can go, regardless of whether others have done it before or not, and seems to relish poking the NFL in the eye. Just as the formations against Baltimore and Indy were a (almost) new wrinkle based on the rules as written, I wouldn't put it past him to have the balls heated and filled with heated air to the prescribed psi for the referees pregame check knowing full well they'd lose some pressure as they cooled. Pure speculation on my part, but thus far that's all this story has been anyway with some anonymous leaks mixed in. How exactly the ball boy, or someone else, would be able to get exactly 2 psi out of each football without all of the cameras seeing them is what I'm having a tough time with. It makes me wonder if the referee crew dropped the ball (groan ) on the initial test.

Suppose blatant cheating was proven, what penalty?

Take away two touch downs.......
Take away two touch downs or three..........bottom line is that I do not think it would have altered the outcome by a measurable amount. Will be interesting to see what becomes of it all. Too bad it has to take away from the game though. |

IF, likely a hefty fine and loss of draft picks.

2lbs can be acheived in a 15 degree temp drop.balls should have been checked on the field right before kickoff.
