Shipping Company

Can anyone recommend an affordable but dependable auto shipping company to ship a car from CA to NY?

DAS and UShip are two choices. Not the only but what I have used over the last five years with respectable results

I really like "UShip". I had to ship some parts from Germany to US, and the "normal" vendors, e.g., DHL, et cet., wanted a small fortune. I put this out there for quotes in the reverse auction platform, and ended up on the cheaps (as compared to DHL, UPS, ...). Or, you can contact folks through the net, but get PREPARED for a zillion emails.

Pretty costly "vacation" ...

I almost bought a car in Washington State to South Carolina, and the competitive quotes were under $1,000 versus flying one way is probably at least $250 bucks, plus driving back would be a long 3-5 days. So, if you work, lose 3-5 days of vacation time plus gas, food, lodging. AND, if you breakdown or have a mechanical issue, you're pretty much screwed.

Where in NY?

If you don't mind a stranger driving it, get a notice on a 'ride share' board of a local college on the NY side. There's got to be at least one kid from Cali who's going to school in NY and wouldn't mind driving it (probably for just the cost of fuel).

I bought the 300CE from Tampa on ebay back in '01. Seller said I'll pick you up at the airport, let you have the car for the day, if you don't like it, I'll drive you back to the airport. No harm no foul. Ok. I drove it around, fell in love with it, and brought it home on the AutoTrain. the next day (I had reserved a ticket before I flew down ).

Not exactly a vacation, but I did enjoy the train ride....and the FL sun in Dec.
