I think that you'll find that if you actually bid on one of these auctions, you'll probably pay 3 times that and it will require an engine rebuild.

Please explain, I understand a 15% buyers fee is now customary on most auctions. But how come it may be 3Xs?

I watched these auctions and have yet to see a single M998 sell for under $10k unless it's got piles of parts missing. Anything worth having is usually $11k and up. Add $1.5k fees + sales tax and then expect a rebuild of something or another before it's running. Army does not get rid of these unless there is something wrong with them that they consider not worth fixing.

Well that used to be the case Al, I first saw surplus ones available in Stanton Tx back in 1995, but yes they are all piles that are just barely still holding together, now that the Humvee replacement from international is in the field, they will be more available -or given to some country like Iraq~~ for terrorists to capture like they did in Mosul.

There is a DOD property disposition form given with everything you buy at a property disposal auction. If it indicates a complete vehicle or aircraft and not salvage or parts, the automotive property can be registered and given a title. The same with certain aircraft if in certain conditions, maybe registered and issued an airworthiness tag.

It all depends on what is on that DOD form.

And, there is not a lot of argument about getting one that has the right form titled, as Chevy made that engine available in K5s back then. The .mil stuff is all non weapon related and does not affect the operation of the vehicle in any way.

The military has a regular replacement program for the engines in the Humvees. They are replaced at a certain age regardless of condition. There's a good chance you will get one with a very good engine. Even the engine's removed are good. Google Ted's Engines as he sells the pull outs. 6.5 diesels. Best version is called the Optimizer.

I guess their are states that you can slide around the titling but the last bill of sale (read NO FED BLUE SHEET) had stamped Not for highway use on it.

The simple answer is age, but it's more complex. Rock music is part of the American fabric if you pay attention. Who among us would have ever thought that Won't get fooled Again would ever be the theme song for a network TV program laddie batla
