My only close up experience with as Skunk was a dead one. When I was in the Boy Scouts we sometimes camped at Camp Pendelton (the Marine Base).
Not sure why there was a Flag Pole out in the middle of a dirt training area but the Marines had run a dead Skunk up the Flag Pole.
Myself and another scout had gotten into some minor trouble and were detailed to remove the Skunk and bury it.
There was no issues cutting the Skunk off the flag pole rope and using some sticks to get him into the hole but the other scout decided to throw a rock at it while it was in the hole. That of course started it stinking that skunk spry smell.
Neither of us got any on us but it made filling in the hole less fun.
