Usually a home type jack will not have physical wear from use. Seal are pretty universal. It the chrome shaft Is not rusted and damaged.

Are they worth the time and effort to repair? Depends on a few things I suppose. I throw the smaller ones away.

Post Hydraulic Trolley Jacks

Yes, always try adding some jack oil before binning it, be careful to clean really well around the filler plug before you open it as a tiny bit of crud will cause the jack to stop working or cause it to sink or fail .

I'm sure my current 3 ton jack was made in China, I never leave it in the rain ~ it lives underneath a dead pickup truck where it's primary enemy is dog hair .

Never, EVER get underneath a vehicle without safety stands ! .

I've been there when the jacks fail, not a fun thing .

I hope your new Schwaben jack is good, the Chinese can and do make good stuff, it depends on the person who orders and pay for it's manufacturing .

Good advice Nate! Jacks are for raising vehicles, not safely supporting them once raised.

As soon as I pulled the new Schwaben out of the box, the old Craftsman started working again, but making a girgling sound while being lowered. More than once, it's worked fine for a tire rotation, but then not worked afterwards. That makes me think there's fluid, but it leaks to the wrong place with use, and then leaks back where it's supposed to be with a few week's or months of non-use. It doesn't drip anything on the floor, though.

18 year old rubber can never be trusted.

I am hoping for it to be Indy but may have to settle for another place.

Yeah, as long as you already have them through college. I expect you have, in effect, already paid for this thrill indirectly.

Oh yeah, four daughters, four weddings and paid a good part of my son's as well. Also helped put them all through college. All have degrees. All five have been married and had kids. Two unfortunately are now divorced.....we still are beating the national average at marriage success.

We had Christmas with my siblings and my Mom. My mom's first cousin also came. He drove himself up from Elkhart at age 87. I also got a birthday cake and some presents though mostly just cards.
