Tried that, no rodents touched it .
I tried creamy, chunky and so on, maybe some specific brand is necessary ? .

Can’t remember the explosive that has gained popularity. I think it’s teramite or something like that. You put it in place and it explodes when shot with a rifle. How does it get more fun than that?

I bought mine mail order maybe 2000, 2001 before they were outlawed. Was a 4 footer - 2 piece, joined in the middle. I killed maybe 5 - 6 pigeons once. A client had a bunch of them roosting on the power line below the 2nd story eaves of her neighbors house, they covered the sidewalk to the door in the backyard to the basement unit with pigeon poop. Under the eaves the darts couldn't sail out into the neighborhood. I felt a bit weird about it, but pigeons are classified like rats, no limitation on extermination. Suckers would bury into their chest, a minute later they'd fall off. Not once would one fly off from the commotion. Even with the several darts I buried into the wood. Fast asleep, must not worry about predators up there. A buddy told me he saw a guy pin a squirrel to the eaves of a house one time. Went right through it and into the wood. Who knows. I did the math, the diameter of the dart would be a quarter inch if scaled up to my body size compared to a pigeon. Squirrel size would be similar. Would be about like an arrow for a human.

Creamy, mix in some bacon fat, rather the congealed grease droppings. Will catch rats, squirrels are harder to catch I gather, I know I've never trapped one, have trapped many rats.

Funny thing in the world of rat traps. You know the old saying, build a better mouse trap and the world will beat a path to your door .... it's weird, but the Victor model that I think is best is not sold in most hardware stores. I get a box of 10 or 12 from Amazon for around $30.
![]() My crudely drawn arrow points to a small rectangular open box of sorts, you can put the peanut butter-bacon fat mix in that, won't roll off as it will somewhat when put on flat part. I put a little on the flat part as well, my thought is more surface area = more scent. I've seen people put a nice tidy arrow on photos, I use Paint, they don't have an arrow you can drag and drop on your photo. These are less prone to that lousy but common finding: the bait is gone but the trap unsprung. This compared to standard, older design with the small rectangular bit of metal with the little piece raised up to grab the hold down rod by the side. The platform is larger. They will tend to put one leg on it while reaching for the food. Better leverage for tripping the trap There is nothing to catch on the yellow plastic thing, just the friction of the rod being pressed against the underside of the yellow plastic. I suspect they're referred to as the professional model because it's easier to nab your finger than with the standard model. Takes a bit or practice. They also have a smaller mouse trap model with the same design. The other brands aren't as good IMO.

That's why you sit inside with a .22 loaded with subsonic shorts, a soda bottle with the end cut open taped to the end of the barrel as a suppressor with the window wide open and nothing sticking out of the house...

It's been a long time since I saw one inside or the poop .
That last time I don't recall what I had in my hand but I killed it ~ the little bastard was in my bedroom for Chrissake . No way am I going to sit in my tiny dusty basement whilst the rodents are under the stove laughing at me...... .Good idea about the pop bottle silencer, I used to use those in the 1970's when I was wilder .

[QUOTE=vwnate1;3996831]Bait it with what please ? .
TIA,[/QUOTE Squirrels are not a problem here. So I am unsure of the right bait. When I first used a live trap. It did not seem to work that well. Over time I got better results. Since peanut butter is derived from nuts. I might give that a try for squirrels. On normal mouse type traps. I bait them and wind some thin thread around the bait. No chance of them not triggering the trap then if they take the bait. |
